How to restore update & medic?!

    Hi, guys!

    My situation is this:

Today when I woke up in the morning - my laptop was slow on waking up... (this has happened here and there...) - so I Restarted it...

After Restarting my laptop the Win 10 was loading up very badly.... throwing some error messages (can not find the file or path specified, unsufficient rights.... )..

My CPU was high 30+ , Memory 90% + , Disk 100% , and any program loading very, very hard & slow....

First I thought about Restore Point... None there...

    Then - Update....

BUT - last few months I was using an app stopupdates10 , so my normal Updates & Update Medic services were disabled by this...

I tried to Disable Stopupdates, it said it did - but it did not.... then I uninstalled that....

My Updates Settings are still showing: Something went wrong.... check back later... message....

I tried Recovery Utility - that didn't work either.....

    then... I run Services.msc and manually set Updates to Automatic, Module Installation to Automatic;

but Update Medic - I could not enable - No Sufficient Rights...

soon after I restarted again laptop - and the Update worked during the loading...

Now - my Laptop works much better, no error during startup, cpu & memory seems normal...

    Problem - windows 10 Update settings are still Not Available.... "Something went wrong...";

I tried again to enable Upadate Medic through Services.msc - no sufficient rights....

I have no restore point or disk...

How to Re-Do back changes made by stopupdates10 and re-enable Update Medic, Updates settings, also I think the Cache folder in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution is missing...

    How to repair this now?!

How to Re-Do back changes made by stopupdates10
How do you /can you do that?
The better utilities that change settings offer a means of reverting them to default. Does that one have that feature? If so, use it.

Looking at what you say you've done you're being remarkably aggressive with your O/S - and without taking due precautions
I have no restore point or disk...

You've not stated your full Windows build number as the forum prompted you to do (so we don't have to keep asking...).

    Whilst this
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
may help in some respects, it's not intended to counter the effects of a 3rd party program used to disable Windows Update.

It will revert necessary services to default and perhaps address your concern
the Cache folder in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution is missing..
You can also perform an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps progs and data if you find it necessary.
However, you need an iso file to match your build (whatever that may be).

    - might suggest you interrupted a Windows update in progress... if so, not a good thing to do..

    ---------------------
Here's how I handle Windows Updates.
    1. I have Pro.
    2. I set Group Policy to 'Notify' of Windows Updates
    3. That means - yes- I get a notification of available updates - and can choose when I download them ( with the option to do something to hide them of course should I so wish e.g. using WUmgr (free). I usually don't do that.

    Problem-free- easy.

    Hi,

    like I said:

stopupdates10 app promised it would revert everything back, but it seems it didn't happen...

so I need some other method....

And I've suggested 2... please reread.

Here's a third- choose the appropriate option from Tweaking.com's free repair tool, following instructions carefully.

ONLY choose the repairs you need. Choose thoughtfully.

    Hi zambala

Read the entire page below to undo what stopupdates10 has done (especially part 2):

Guess what- there's a tenforums tutorial on restoring services to default - all or individually.

Restore Default Services in Windows 10

But I suspect what you've done to your PC will need more than that.

You should always act defensively- prepare for what might happen to your PC and also for what you might do to it.. deliberately or inadvertently.

I'd suggest uninstall it then reboot.

Then install the latest version. After install a window opens giving you the option to run "updates guard" - don't select that. Just apply "hard block" then reboot and then go back into the program and under settings uncheck everything that you blocked then "apply". Then in the main window "Restore Windows Updates"

Other option is in place upgrade using MCT.

Yes, here and there I remember to create Restore Points, but they keep disappearing...

I think it used to be 3 months for a Restore Point to be kept, but actually it often just disappears and much sooner...

Yesterday, while I had problems & I discovered there is no Restore Point, I created one..... and Today I checked - and there were No Restore Point again... it means the update yesterday probably deleted it....

I have often seen this - when the problems starting - there are No Restore Points, even may be a few days ago there were... idk this...

Usually only an upgrade to the next build- a feature update- wipes them - or an in-place upgrade repair install. Some people seem to have the problem you describe- restore points vanishing - you can find appropriate threads on that. Mine:

I have one created daily automatically.
