Yep, occupational hazard. :)
Win key + R (for mac the key that triggers the start menu) then type services.msc scroll down till you see Windows Update and temporarily disable it. When done enable it again.

Let me understand (forgetting presentations for a moment). If I go to Services and disable Windows Update, will it stick and stay disabled through multiple boots and reboots or is it a one-time thing? While the presentation is the panic moment, I don't like auto updates at all and would love to turn 'em off forever, let me decide how often to check for updates and install them. Do-able?
