    Rob,

If it only has 4GB RAM and you use it for video editing, I would not be surprised to find that it would benefit from more RAM.

Windows live essentials was discussed a lot in Windows 10 early days. I did not keep any notes because I have always used MSOffice Outlook. I don't recall anybody finding a way of keeping it in Windows 10 but I would never have been paying much attention to those threads.

    All the best,
    Denis

if it works thats all you need, i do some movie making/editing so a bit more RAM helps a great deal.

i tried to install LIVE ESSENTIALS on this 10 computer but it kept coming up with a script error when i tried to use MOVIE MAKER, i have an OFFICE 2007 that i have here, FOXIT PDF and i use THUNDERBIRD EMAIL and FIREFOX browser.

if i'm going to upgrade one of the other computers i'd swing towards the 7 machine me thinks, i'm not into online gaming or anything either.

i got a lifetime license the other day forVSDC PRO the other day on GIVE AWAY OF THE DAY for this main 10 machine, good score.

    Rob,

Oh dear, I was not thinking of Windows live essentials but Windows live mail or somesuch.
The name Movie maker seems very familiar and I think that has been discussed in old threads from 1025-16. But I suppose VSDC is better anyway.
I only do very simple video editing. I record TV programmes and I trim out start-end tails & adverts using VideoReDo but you already have VSDC.

I use MSOffice 2007 for my email, amongst other things. It's part of the MSOffice Pro 2007 Edition but not all 2007 Editions.
    - I experimented with Office 2016 for a year but its Outlook is atrocious & its Access unfriendly.
    - I'm going to be experimenting with Office 2021 but all I've done so far [I got it a couple of weeks ago] is play around enough to know that its Outlook is atrocious & its Access unfriendly.
    - Whilst Office 2007 is no longer supported, malware would have to get through Windows 10 WD & WD Firewall before it could attempt to subvert Office.

I also use Foxit PDF Reader. I like its Advanced search being on its main Toolbar [Adobe also had Advanced search but it was awkward to get to in the user interface].
    - I'm resisting updating Foxit from v9 because the current version uses a different folder path [I think it's now a 64 bit application whereas v9 is 32 bit]. I have hundreds of shortcuts that make use of its exe file path and I'll have to tailor an Excel VBA to change the references in them.

    All the best,
    Denis

    hi Denis

this is my "crappy" machine that i've since realised isnt so crappy after the clean system install and removing all the MS bloatware, pretty bare bones now which i like.

the same machine with no 3rd party AV using WD that i was concerned about high memory usage so i thought id post some pics of task manger showing the ANTIMALWARE SERVICE EXECUTABLE numbers, always hovers around 50% for that service alone.

    it still has me intrigued.

    Rob,

Perhaps it will calm down by the end of the week.

i havent had any more problems since i finally got up to 21H2 using the June 2, 2022 - KB5014023 (OS Builds 19042.1741, 19043.1741, and 19044.1741) patch i also discovered that to update it was faster and more successful downloading the most current update from the Microsoft Update Catalogue as a standalone package then installing.

    Jay,

And you'll find a TenForums News thread for each update containing a direct download link.

To address the problem more directly, I suggest
1 Reset Windows Update - TenForumsTutorials
    or
2 Run a Version 21H2 "ISO file" as a Repair install [it does not affect your applications or data] to rewrite your Windows files thus hopefully overwriting whatever is causing your problem.
Download Windows 10 ISO File -TenForumsTutorials - I always use Option 5 [TechBench WZT] for my "ISO files".
Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials - This can be run directly from the "ISO file" so you do not need to create an installation USB to run it. And you boot into Windows normally before running it, you do not boot from a USB or do anything else unusual beforehand.

    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]
