How To Turn Off Windows Update In Windows 10? Here Are 5 Easy Ways

I've tried a bunch of these and none of them seem to be there in my OS. This is a HP PC and I suspect they got their fingers into the OS.

I'm also having a hard time finding out how to stop requiring my pin every time it reboots.

    Hello @MamaBear,

Have a look at this => How to use CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update in Windows 10

Myself and many others use this with great results.

You may also find these useful . . .

    > How to Turn On or Off Automatic Device Driver Installation in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

Yeah, that's what I see here - no longer available. I don't want to do semi-annual, I just want to be notified and asked permission. It's the polite thing to do. I wouldn't go to Bill Gates' house and start modifying it with upgrades, I'd ask if he wanted them.

SO unless Bill Gates OWNS my PC ( scary thought! ), I want Microsoft to ask permission before messing with my OS. I've seen PC's trashed by upgrades. My old Windows 7 PC was trashed when I did the "free" Windows 10 upgrade, and it cost me to buy a new one!

Re. PIN, select this option and set to never. This is for W11 but similar setting in W10.

Whilst you could set your PC to automatically log in to the same account, you would lose the security.

Why are you restarting so often? Shouldn't be needed unless making a significant change.
    This might be of interest..
Configure Mode of Auto Sign in and Lock after Restart in Windows 10

You wish to be notified of Windows Updates.

If you have Win 10 Pro, you can set updates to 'Notify' in Group Policy.
That means you get a notification, then can proceed with it at your convenience.

If the issue relates to restarts, there are tutorials related to that that may help.
Configure Auto-restart Reminder Notification for Updates in Windows 10
Schedule Restart Time for Windows Update in Windows 10
Configure Auto-restart Required Notification for Updates in Windows 10
Specify Deadlines for Automatic Updates and Restarts in Windows 10

As to stopping WU, this has been discussed many many times on tenforums- a little searching might offer

older Sledghammer (free) - which I still use - someone said this had caused one person an issue in 1 thread. I have a PC on 1903.
Matthew Wai's tutorial on using scripts - which Paul Black mentioned.
    Another tutorial on stopping WU.

Unless you use Windows 10 without a license, Microsoft does not need your permission as per the license terms: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Uset...10_English.htm

    Scroll down to "6. Updates."
They have every right to mess up your OS without any additional notice.
