Your device is missing important security and quality fixes

I am in the process of updating my brothers laptop, he passed away recently and I thought it about time I did this. It had obviously not been updated for some time due to his dementia.
Anyway I have got to a point where I can go no further as I get the message

'Your device is missing important security and quality fixes' I have tried check for updates numerous times but no luck.

The Win 10 info is V1919 OS 18363.1556

I have checked both Malware bytes and Bit-defender are up to date and cannot find any setting reporting an error. (Mind you I am not sure what I am looking for, just hit and hope I might come across the problem.

It would have been really helpful if the info gave a little more info such as what security and quality problems!!
I took a phone photo but for some reason it will not upload, maybe too large a file? It's 7.13mb.

    Trapper,

I suggest that your first step should be to update it to the latest Version. You can do this by downloading the latest "ISO" file and using that to run a "Repair install" [also called an "In-place upgrade"].
Download Windows 10 ISO File -TenForumsTutorials ***
    Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials

*** There are several options. I often use Option 5 [TechBench] and I have to remember to select "International English" - that's us now [the "English" choice actually means Yankee "English" these days.]

    - While you are doing this you will see references to making an installation USB. You do not need to do this to achieve the update to the latest Version. You might choose to do this later on when all the main work is out of the way.
    - Whilst it would be wise to back up before you start, a Repair install should never affect your/his own files or any installed applications. I always make a new "system image" before running a Repair install. Do you know what that is? There is some explanation in my ditty - file backup vs imaging, Win10 imaging deprecated, Macrium Reflect, backup drivers [#13] - TenForums

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Hi Denis.
Thank you for your reply, before I start trying to sort he problem I have a USB with the file: Media Creation Tool 20H2.exe. I had problems with my (this) PC with an update, cannot remember what the problem was now though.

Would it be okay to use this file on the laptop?

I am sure I printed off the tutorials you mention, I just have to find them!

As @Try3 mentioned... the In-Place upgrade is the easiest way to get the comp up to date with little or no hassle.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Assuming that what you meant was that you used the Media Creation Tool to create an installation USB then that would be alright but that Version will stop getting updates on 10th May 2022. I suggest that your efforts will bear fresher fruit if you get the latest ISO [Version 21H1] and use that instead - it is supported until 13th December 2022. But it's entirely up to you.
Support dates are shown in this MS webpage - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lif...0-home-and-pro

If all you meant was that you downloaded the Media Creation Tool and copied it to a USB then that can only be used to control the download of the ISO [as also described in the tutorial]. It is not of any direct use at all. You might as well use the tutorial to download the latest ISO.

    All the best,
    Denis

Many, many hours later success his laptop now shows V 21H1 19043.1110. Although my PC shows as 21H1 19043.1151

I also found his PC is even more out of date so I know what I will be doing tomorrow!

Thanks for your input, the help on this forum is to be commended.

    Regards
    Alan.
