    Update error 800f081f

I had this problem once before and I got so annoyed that I just reinstalled windows, but if this keeps happening I want to fix the source of the problem so I don't have to keep dealing with this nonsense.

I was trying to install kb5000850 and kept getting the error 800f081f. I ran the update troubleshooter, which just told me to reboot. That didn't fix anything. I ran 'sfc /scannow' and it didn't find any problems. I downloaded the MSU from the update catalog which failed with no error code (presumably for the same reason).

Then tuesday kb5001337 was released and I'm getting the same error and I can't get that to install either.

What went wrong, how can I fix it, and how can I prevent it in the future?

Hi, if you search tenforums you will find that where this has occurred people have performed an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data in order to resolve this. Other things were tried but did not work. I've seen one older case where using a DISM command (basically the same effect) worked.

It may be there are other solutions since I last looked at any other threads- feel free to have a look.

    Hello @nosmokingbandit,

Can you upload the Windows Update logs from the following path?
    C:\Windows\logs\

Copy and paste the CBS folder on your desktop, zip it and then upload it on WeTransfer and share the link here please.

Is on this PC the Developer Mode enabled and the FOD: "Graphics Tools" installed on this computer?

I do have developer mode turned on and according to Settings/OptionalFeatures I have Graphics Tools installed, but I can't think of why or when that was installed. Unless it gets installed with Unity.

    Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately, I cannot say how it was installed on your system.

You could try uninstalling the Graphic Tools now, if it works, and then try the Windows Update again, or you could update to version 2004 or 20h2 because support for version 1909 ends next month.

I removed Graphics Tools, rebooted, and I'm still getting the same error code trying to install 5001337
