1909 was just automatically updated to 2004, instead of 20H2

Feature update to 2004 slipped by me even though the (optional) update to 20H2 was already listed in settings/windows update. Why didn't WU simply download the 20H2 fixes with 2004? I can't believe my system has suddenly been classified as incompatible, not if 2004 is good to install. Will the enablement package be offered next tuesday? I have checked for updates manually and it doesn't find it.

No Conexant/Symantec devices here. This has to be a mistake on MS's part, it's happened before when I was on 1803 and when I hit "Check for updates" it gave me 1809 instead of the 1903 that I wanted, which had already been out for months. They should always offer the latest release if there are no compatibility holds in place.

Download Media Creation Tool, run it inside windows, tell it to upgrade my pc, that will give you the latest version as long as the basic system is compatible. If it asks during the process keep my files, say yes, it will.

Won't that method result in another reinstall, just like a normal feature update? I only want the new fixes that come with the enablement package that should theoretically install almost as fast as cumulative updates. I already wasted enough time installing an obsolete version, thank you MS

KB4562830 Enablement Package Feature Update to Windows 10 version 20H2

The KB4562830 Enablement Package allows you to go from build 19041 (v2004) to 19042 (v20H2).
    Prerequisites

You must have the following prerequisites installed before applying this update:

    Then just download and install: KB4562830 MSU for Windows 10 20H2 64-bit (x64) - 84.9 MB
...at the bottom of the 1st post.

    Translation...

    1. Do both prerequisites. Reboot
    2. Then download and install: KB4562830. Reboot
    3. Then run Windows Update.

This version is already up to date at 19041.746 so the SSU should meet requirements, the latest is indeed listed in installed updates. I'll just wait until the next update tuesday and see if it gets automatically offered then, but I doubt it.

I would just like to have the latest security updates, but I don't actually know if the 20H2 fixes are that important. I was going to wait until the spring/summer feature update but now I'll be sticking with 2004/20H2 for a while to reduce the strain on the system drive, since 20H2 can't be upgraded to the next build via enablement package. It looks like this is the new cycle, feature update -> enablement package -> feature update -> enablement package....

I got the optional preview update listed under Windows Update also, but I never install those unless there's a specific bug that needs fixing ASAP.
