    Swapping activations between computers

    Hello,
I purchased a new HP Envy Desktop. It comes with Windows 10 Home (V2004). It replaces my AMD Ryzen home built which has Windows 10 Pro (V20H2). I would like to put the Windows 10 Pro on the HP Envy and the Windows 10 home on the AMD. Is this possible? From searches, it seems to appear to be NOT. Would like correct answer and any alternatives that are good.
    Thanks

If you Pro was a paid for upgrade you could try removing the key from MS Store from the one it is on now and then reuse it on the new. If there both original OEM then I don't think you have any chance.

    Hello Clintlgm,
The Pro is purchased. The other is OEM. So I can upgrade the HP Desktop but that would leave the Ryzen Computer without an operating system, yes?

OEM is not transferrable,it is locked to the original hardware.
    Retail is free to move.
You can transfer OEM to another hard drive, but not another motherboard.

The old PC will not be activated but most Windows functions will work. You could find a cheap Windows 7 key, clean install Windows 7 then upgrade to Windows 10 which should give you a Windows 10 digital licence.

    Good day Steve C,
I think that might be worth investigating. Thanks for the idea!

On the old computer running Windows 10 Pro, what does the activation screen under Settings, Updates & Security show? If it shows Windows is activated with a digital license, then there is nothing you can do to remove the license for Windows 10 Pro from that computer. It will always be there on Microsoft's Activation servers waiting to activate Windows 10 Pro with the generic product key for Windows 10 Pro: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T.

If you have a retail Windows 10 Pro license, you can activate Windows 10 Pro on the new computer with it. But there is nothing you as a user can do to remove the license for Windows 10 Pro for the old computer stored on Microsoft Activation Servers.

Let's say you wipe the old computer clean and sell it. All the new owner has to do is enter the generic product key for Windows 10 Pro on the old computer and it will activate.

    Hello NavyLCDR,
    The old computer shows:
    Windows
    Edition: Windows 10 Pro N
Activation: Windows is activated with a digital license

As I recall this probably was upgraded from probably windows 7 and in between till now. I found a DVD from 2013 W7 Install with SP1 marked with GSP!RMCUL* written on it. I mean it isn't like I still don't have windows 2000 install disk and W95
    Thanks

So, anytime anyone installs Windows 10 Pro N on the old computer and uses the product key 2B87N-8KFHP-DKV6R-Y2C8J-PKCKT, it will activate online.
