    Windows Update doesn't work anymore

I noticed that I have not received any update prompts for a few weeks. When I selected Updates from Settings in the Start Menu I get a message saying that something went wrong and I am unable to check for updates?

Currently running Win 10 pro version number 2004, OS Build 19041.52, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

    Any help/advice appreciated.

    Thanks

    As a start . . .

    SFC And RestoreHealth

[Q1] Have you run sfc /scannow from an elevated cmd prompt?
[Q2] If so, were there any errors or integrity violations [ ?
[Q3] Have you run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from an elevated cmd prompt?

    Elevated Command Prompt

[1] Open an elevated cmd prompt [ Administrative ] by pressing the Win + X keys together and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).
[2] Type sfc /scannow in the cmd prompt and press <ENTER>.
[3] Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in the cmd prompt and press <ENTER>.

When the above has finished processing, COPY & PASTE the output data in the cmd prompt Window into your post . . .

[4] Right-click on the title bar of the cmd prompt window [ where it says Administrator: Command Prompt ].
[5] Scroll down to Edit and click Select All.
[6] Right-click on the title bar again.
[7] Scroll down to Edit and click Copy.
[8] Paste the data into your post.

    IMPORTANT

If SFC finds file errors that it CAN'T repair, the usual fix is to run the SFC and DISM commands up to three time sequentially, or until there are NO errors.

    SFC Error Report

However, if there are STILL SFC errors, type . . .

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%userprofile%\Desktop\SFC_Details.txt"

. . . into an elevated command prompt and press <ENTER>. This will create a SFC_Details.txt file on the Desktop. Either COPY & PASTE the information into your post, or Upload the file . . .

Before all of which best check your disk(s) (e.g. Crystal Diskinfo- free - SMART params) and file system
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

    Then the above

Please then run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and post a screenshot of the result thus:

Have you done anything to disable Windows Update?

If the troubleshooter does not succeed in fixing things (and it may not) try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    and advise outcome.

The dism log file is too large to upload? It is 3.7Mb.

I performed the tasks that Dalchina suggested with the following result:

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 didn't resolve the issue either?

Thanks to both of you for your continued support.

You could Upload the file using a shared link like One Drive, Drop Box, or Google Drive for example. @zbook is one of the experts on logs and will see this.

If your disk is ok (nothing from Crystal Diskinfo I think) and your file system is ok (chkdsk) but DISM fails then I suggest heading straight for an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data (tutorial available if unsure).

As you have 2004, if you don't already have a 2004 iso file or bootable disk, then as per tutorial on downloading an iso file, use the Heidoc iso downloader (free, Google) to download one from MS.

Whilst this is a conservative procedure, it is the same process as an upgrade.

Cautionary note: just in case, and as should be routinely done anyway, create a disk image so you always have a way back.
    E.g. with Macrium Reflect (free).

Simply go for an in-place upgrade repair install - save time..
