    Update 20H2

I have tried several times to update, it goes well it seems, then upon restart it balks, collects information to restart, and fails. So I do the deed of doing this sequence two more times to get startup repair to revert, then it will reboot. All my other updates are fine, just this major feature update fails.

I have tried command prompt as Admin sequences to reset to no avail. Also fired up the advanced troubleshooter, doesn't find anything.

Endlessly a problem. Any suggestions? I know there has to be some kind of workaround.

    Thanks in advance...

Hi, what is your current build?
    Update 20H2-win-10-version.png

Exactly how are you trying to update?
How much free space do you have on C: ?

Have you been offered 20H2 by windows update?

Post a screenshot of your partitions using a 3rd party partition manager.

Run setupdiag.exe - download from MS- (Google) and post the result

    version

    Os Build 19041.508.

And I am updating through the offered windows update.

Should I download it separately directly from M$, then do the install?

86 gig free on C drive. Just did a drive cleanup, 94.5 gig now.

C drive separate SSD, D drive separate SSD.

If the update is being offered through Windows Update, go that route. And telling us the drives doesn't affect things. The update is going to land on C drive where it will be installed.

Agreed - and again from post #2:

Post a screenshot of your partitions using a 3rd party partition manager.

The update is very light. Took me around 15minutes from start to finish. Try scanning your drives for error. Just a hunch but no harm trying. :)

when I cloned from one ssd to another larger ssd with macrium reflect, it brought over all the 'hidden' partitions on the 'C' drive and it made for a slick, no problem clone. I has been this way for the last year, never had a problem with M$ updates and all previous major OS upgrades until this 20H2 update.

I am going to try a direct download and install later today, too busy working right now...

What's the link between cloning and the update failing? I don't understand why you suddenly refer to cloning.

setupdiag.exe might give information on what happened. It's MS's attempt to match cases vs known types of failures, so its utility is variable. Otherwise you'll have to look at the logs.

I guess a screenshot of your partitions is a step too far for you.

And of course, there may be some underlying 20H2 bug...
