    Aug Patch Tues offerings GONE

win10 Pro ver 1909 ver 18363.959 on Acer Aspire e5-576G-5762

On or about 13 Aug, the aug offerings appeared-notify but not downloaded, as it should have been( alittle late but they showed up. I ran wushowhide and hid both offerings- I do not recall what the numbers were but I had them hidden, right. So it appeared. Then WU finally checked again and all disappeared from the WU Que- as was supposed to., still hidden awaiting the go ahead . Curiously, on about the 15th Aug, the same updates appeared and I was notified ready to download. Huh! So I hid these too. What else could I do? Dont want to install and take my chances. So I checked hidden and there they were. 1X

But a day later I checked in hidden again(paranoia runs deep) and that dang net previw(kbXXXXXX900) is there and it has been installed successfully TWICE already , but the Aug offerings were gone!
So I am at a total loss about whats going on. How will I get the Aug updates now? There were only 2 so I assumed msft knew what I needed but twice offered then gone?
WU has checked several times and informs me I am up to date- yet no Aug update files are installed.
According to Belarc (tonight) 2 security updates are missing.
    Microsoft security update (KB4565351)
    Microsoft security update (KB4569751)

Any suggestions on how to get wu to see they are missing and offer again? I want to hide them until all clear is given from other sites....ASKWOODY

    Thank you
    Drifty Donn

I first switched to Windows 10, in early May 2020. I noticed two things...
    1. The way MS does updates on Windows 10, is really strange.
    2. Good backup software is a must. I use Macrium Reflect 7.x (free)

Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

On Windows 7 I was an avid follower of Ask Woody, and did what he suggested, just about always. Now... I let MS decide if and when it wants to update. I also make a fresh full OS backup, at/near, the beginning of each month.
This way, if there's a problem with one or any Windows Updates, I can just restore to a previous Macrium backup.

Once installed, Macrium Reflect allows you to make a bootable version of Macrium CD/USB, so that you can access you backups, even when Windows won't boot.

I now sleep much better at night, because I can let MS do it's thing, and I don't have to worry about it, any more.

Microsoft uses a very strange rule book, for if/when it offers updates. IMO, it's best just to let them handle it, and use backup software, so you can easily recover from any disasters, if/when the Windows Updates cause them.

That way, you don't have to confuse yourself or MS's Update scheme, but hiding/unhiding updates. At default settings, a full OS image backup (Macrium) is only about 45% the size of all the data on your C: drive.

As you can see from the link @dalchina posted, this issue is pretty much a general problem, with MS Updates. Also he has given you the KB number of the latest update for you version of Windows.

Personally, I would just wait to see what WU offers next, and I would seriously consider backup software. If I am reading your system spec right (Google), you would probably need an external hard drive/USB flash drive, to "store" your backups... on.

Further reading, concerning backup and restore...

I have not applied the Aug patch tuesday offerings- see my OP. BUT curiously, I just checked wushowhide AGAIN (at least 4th time since 13th Aug) and they ARE NOW THERE!! kb4565351 and KB 4569751 awaiting download and install. I will put off a bit longer. But this is an odd occurrence- 2 x offered by wu and hidden 2x and disappeared till today when they reappered as hidden. See screen shot below. Gone and back again
as I M USING ( BEING USED BY) win10 Pro ver 1909 ver 18363.959 I assume bld 1059 is post aug patch application.

First, is there a way to reply to you or anyone without using the quote function?
I too use Macrium for many years I do have several images at any given time on an external USB SSD, only connected when imaging or restoring or backing up(copying) miscellaneous files. That said, I am averse to just allowing msft to patch my PC w/o oversight, such as I have the ability. I have group policy set to notify/do not download. I have drivers blocked)msft can't code a reliable driver imo) I then hide the offered patch files using wushowhide until the dust settles and they fix whatever is buggy, if it is buggy. Usually about 3 week hold. But for these to be offered hidden then gone from que(as it should be) only to be offered again a few days later is suspect. So I hid them again and as you can see from my screen shot they were gone. But today, 2 security updates mysteriously appeared in the hidden area!! The link Dalchina provided seem to be describing PREVIEW CU's for 1909 aug patch? I do not want previews. I have the .net preview(KBXXXXXxxx900) from last month installed TWICE! Like a bad rash- no good for anything!
So I guess the 2 security updates reported as missing by Belarc may not be the only thing I'm missing?
    Thank you!!

First, you can generate a "mention" which will appear in the green notification area, just like a quote.
Just use the @ symbol right before an account name like: @DriftyDonn ...and that will create a "mention"

As for MS it seems they are trying to update you again... two security updates, in the hidden area?
You need to remember how very many computers are running Windows 10. Different versions, different computer types, etc.
Things are not going to happen instantaneously. From OUR standpoint, We click hide then unhide and expect immediate results. From MS's standpoint, when you click hide...it probably goes to a huge queue, millions of computers long.

This is why I just gave up with trying to out think WU. Believe me, I'm even more paranoid than you are. In 9 years I ONLY installed Win 7 updates manually. Every last one. I even saved copies of every last one on a storage drive... just in case.

Windows 10 is different. Try it my way for a month or two. On the 1st of the month, make a Macrium full OS image backup. Then during that month, just let MS do w/e it wants. (Make sure you have made the bootable Macrium CD, so you can access your backups, even when Windows won't boot).

Here's something else you'll probably love... WinAero Tweaker.

@Ghot Did I just post the same thing twice?? huh!
well, I cannot just let msft just have carte blanche. I only ask they let me use tools THEY provide and that they work reliably. grp edit to notify, sow and WAIT. then let me decide to install or hide. to then remove from thw wushowhide HIDDEN area w/o permission is out of bounds. Then to offer the same files while they are in the hidden part of their tool, is just silly. (like the .net preview file...installed twice in a matter of a handful of days!) Then to remove completely from the hidden area designated as a no dl /install as they instructed is lust wrong. Then to put 2 security files in the hidden area(I didn't do it!) with no notification?? Why not just regoffer them in the wu que as most patches are??
I can always go back to the pause function we have available for now. #5 days is easy to extend- just unpause then unplug your router. 35 day calendar is reset. I believe that will be my option. BUT meantime how do I find out what I'm supposed to have gotten on patch tuesday? When wu auto checks, It thinks I'm up to date.
I DO have win aero and several other third party tools I've used since getting win 10 17?? ie disable cortana, edge, block drivers, etc. Maybe I've used too many and need a clean install of 1909 but I will not allow free reign. I appreciate your advice and suggestions and look forward to future communication. I'll apprise you all of the outcaome of my missing auf patches!

    @DriftyDonn

As I've said a number of times now. I just decided to let MS do it's thing. Nothing bad has happened so far.
And that's coming from someone who HATES the way MS does things. Trusting MS with updates, gets easier with practice.

Here's all the tutorials concerning Windows Update...

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/id-Windows_Update/

Your other option at this point is maybe mention @dalchina
For one, I run Win 10 HOME, so I don't even have group policy editor. For another, I explained my method for dealing with WU, while maintaining peace and tranquility.

IMO, trying to fit the Windows 10 Update system into a Windows 7 Update framework, is a losing proposition. I've read a LOT of posts on here about Win 10 WU, and over and over I see the same thing... long drawn out work arounds, that don't last very long, or a NEW method.

Using backup software to cover your bases.
