Sorry, but I did a clean install and now I'm having the 0x80073712 error while installing KB4541335. Maybe it has to do with something Winaero Tweaker, O&O ShutUp10, Win10Privacy and Ultimate Windows Tweaker did.

Also, when I try to sign in my Microsoft account, Edge Chromium states:

"We can' t sign you in right now

Sign in is not supported when running Microsoft Edge as an administrator. Please relaunch Microsoft Edge as a non-administrator and try signing in again.".

Maybe this issue is caused by a policy created by one (or more) of the same programs.

    Thank you for your reply.

Basic principle: always make sure you have a way back.

Use disk imaging routinely, document changes between imaging so it's reversible. Discipline. You have been using disk imaging as is so so often advised by members here, haven't you?

Enable System Restore: set up creation of a daily restore point. (SR restoration is known to be unreliable, but great when it works).

Given those methods, you have ways of returning to a good state without seeking technical help.

Otherwise: as you use various tweaking tools, look to those to reverse the changes. E.g. I seem to recall O&O ShutUp10 allows you to reset its settings to default.

Winaero's tweaker should be quite safe.

Policy: if you have Win 10 Pro and any registry changes equivalent to group policy have been made you can reverse those : see tutorial
Reset Local Group Policy Editor Settings to Default in Windows 10

You can try the tutorial on resetting Windows update.

That would be a pretty good guess. You sure seem to have a pretty good collection of tweakers there. Many having issues discover removing those tweak programs actually "fixes" Windows. It's why I don't use them and never advertise them.

Anyway try removing those tweak programs and see how your updates go.

Also that link posted for the 0x80073712 post is dated 2013... two years "before" Windows 10 release. Point? 99.999 it probably won't solve your issue since the Windows 10 code is constantly being updated.

    Good luck.

@sygnus21 - I clearly stated it was FYI and I did not offer it as solving the problem.

It does give the description of the error number and this is as relevant as it ever was:
If you receive Windows Update error 0x80073712 or 80073712, it means that a file needed by Windows Update is damaged or missing. Windows has troubleshooting tools that can help you address this problem. Follow the steps below to use these tools. Method 1: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter

Sorry I have to explain that for you.

I'm here to help people fix their issues. Not compete for the biggest know-it-all.

And you needed to "explain" that to the OP instead of just leaving a blind Googled link from 2013.

    Have a good day.

    You're welcome.

No, I haven't. I don't know how to do that nor have I seen other users recommending it.

It was already enabled but it looks like it didn't create a restore point.

I did that (reverted O&O ShutUp10's settings) but I still had this issue. Maybe it only reset its policies, not the other programs'. Anyway, I want to configure Windows so I wouldn't want to get rid of these policies.

When I used Winaero Tweaker I wasn't having this issue, although I wasn't able to install CUs after using its developer site's Connect app removal tool but thanks to a sysnative.org thread I fixed the problem.

I recall Winaero Tweaker having a setting that resets Group Policy Editor settings so I may try that in spite of wanting to configure Windows 10 (or maybe I should try that tutorial instead of sing Winaero Tweaker to do it because it may reset only its policies, not the other programs'.

I tried both solutions and I still have this problem.

Well, the thing is, I want to configure Windows and I don't know how to set this policies myself and even if I did I suppose I'd have the same issue since I presume it's not the programs' fault but the policies'. Yes, I already tried it and it didn't work.

    Thank you.

    Unfortunately, it didn't work.

    It's ok.

EDIT: Actually, it was Winaero Tweaker and/or Ultimate Windows Tweaker who caused the Edge Chromium issue. After enabling UAC in it I stopped having this issue so I won't disable it again in it.

EDIT 2: I still couldn't sign in the Microsoft account in Edge Chromium. This problem was caused by the removal of AAD Broker Plugin and AccountsControl by NTLite.

On sysnative.org I was told it was because my HDD is having problems (it has bad sectors) so in order to update I'd have to replace it and do a clean install afterwards. Is it true the HDD can cause a WU problem like this?
