Update wiped Intall Files MS files, now laptop can't connect to printer

Fortunately I had a back up of all my Install Files.
Not sure why MS removed all the MS downloaded files but that's not the issue here.

This is an HP Pavilion laptop and the printer is an HP Deskjet 2540 (All in one series),

The issue is that the computer can no longer connect to printer.
    Attempts thus far:
    - Uninstall HP printer and re-install using the HP installation CD (now shows normally in Programs).
    - Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Also some help in another thread which got me back to the correct HP printer loading
(the Update also changed default print to One Note which I don't use).

So far I've wasted hours trying to find and correct the problem which 'seems' to be
between the laptop and the printer as individually both work fine.

What do you think may have disturbed this particular connectivity?

ps have to go out for the day but will check responses asap, thanks!

Can we ask was this a monthly update or a feature update, like going to 1909?

Does your laptop show that you are using a Public or Private network setting.

Start > Settings > Network and Internet > right hand side has picture and within picture it says Private or Public. Should be private.

    Hello Caledon Ken,

    yes set to Private network.
Hard to know exactly which update as there have been 4 this month (February)
1909 was completed some time ago so don't think it was this however I haven't been printing
till now but I've just begun a course and now need to print regularly.

The drivers on your printer CD are almost certainly out-of-date.
    - Go to the HP site and get the latest drivers & software for your printer.
    - While you are there check for any printer firmware update.

And have a look around that part of their website & their user forums to see if HP recommend any particular procedure for uninstalling before installing new printer drivers & software.

For Windows 10 64 bit OS, this page shows printer driver & software update in 2015 & firmware update in 2018
    https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers.../model/5295961

    Hello Try3,
at this time I'm in the middle of a procedure from HP forums ... need to complete that first ... but I'll leave this page open.

    - - - Updated - - -

    This is what happened.
Followed instructions (see attachment) and discovered at the last step, after deleting everything that this model isn't listed.
So I'm up the proverbial creek!!!

oops...can't attach the instructions... will pick up again tomorrow. G'night folks.
