    Hyper-V Windows Product Activation Issue

I upgraded windows 10 from Windows 7. I followed Kari's instruction of Import Windows XP Mode VHD from Windows 7 to
Windows 10. For windows Activation part I entered my XP windows
Product Key (from my dead computer) and tried to activate through
smartphone process. I got a message: " I am sorry , we cannot complete the
transaction as our records do not recognize this as a valid product."
Can you tell me what am I doing wrong? I spent so many hours on this. Thank You
in Advance. Happy Holidays and Happy New year.
    Thank you.

Well....are you trying to activate an install of Windows XP with the XP product key? Windows XP to Windows 10 is not a valid upgrade path. Only Windows 7 or 8/8.1 to Windows 10 is valid.

Did you export the XP Mode with Disk2VHD before the upgrade? That is important.

OP is not talking about upgrading from XP to W10, he is talking about exporting Windows 7 Virtual PC's Windows XP Mode VM to Hyper-V in Windows 10: Import Windows XP Mode from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Windows XP is inside Hyper-V in Windows 10. 10's activated properly, XP inside Hyper-V isn't getting activated.

[Mr. Kari Reply" Did you export the XP Mode with Disk2VHD before the upgrade? That is important."
Yes sir. I followed your instructions from your tutorial. I imported VM XP from Windows 7 to windows 10. Everything worked till activation. I used XP key from my dead machine. But it did not worked. I am frustrated. Even I am willing to buy right activation key too. Thank you.
I tell you that Win 10 is not solid like Win 7.

Normal Windows XP keys, be it OEM or Retail, do not work with Windows XP Mode virtual machine. If the XM Mode activation does not work with phone activation, there's nothing you can do. You can use it for 30 days without activation, then delete it and re-import for another 30 days.

You might have better changes to reuse your original XP product key with real Windows XP install media. Find a Windows XP ISO image or CD, use it to install XP on virtual machine, and activate with your valid key.

    1. Without activation, it would not allowed me to get into VM XP mode. Is there a trick to start VM XP for 30 days?
    2. If I install XP from Iso and use my Xp Pro old key, to start in VM mode in windows 7. Then can I use my VHD created by Disk2vhd? That is where all my apps and data are.
    Thank you for help.

    Happy New Year.

I installed clean Windows XP 32 bit professional on Hyper-v Virtual machine in windows 10. In Hyper-v management, I check mark all the boxes. The mouse arrow stays in XP window till I hit Ctrl+ ALT+ Left arrow key. Then I can go to Desktop. Also, I can not access Thispc's C:\ drive and all the USB data drives. Only things are accessible is ROM drives. Also, I can't connect to Internet. I am lost.

    Hi there
I think (although I'm not an expert in HYPER-V) for LAN / Internet access from the VM you need to ensure that the Network switch is "External" i.e Bridged mode.

XP VM's usually work on any virtualisation platform quite well and consume minimal resources too.
@Kari can guide if I've got this wrong.

    Cheers
