Windows Update appears in "Programs & Features" list

Is the following odd update behaviour normal? Anyone else noticed this?

    a) 1st March 2019: - Feature Update installed from v1803 to v1809

    b) 31st May 2019: - Feature Update installed from v1809 to v1903

    c) 12th November 2019: - Feature Update installed from v1903 to v1909

Feature Update a) installed the update as a program would be installed and it appears in the “Programs & Features” list of installed programs shown as: - “Update for Windows 10 for x64-based systems (KB4023057)” version 2.55.0.0

Feature Updates b) and c) were installed as normal and appear in the “Update & Security / View Update History” list where I expect all Windows updates to appear. Feature Update a), KB4023057, does not appear in this list.

Question - Now that Windows 10 has had another two FUs since KB4023057 I expect these will have superseded FU a) so can it be uninstalled or will this revert my DELL back to v1803?

    Looks normal.

KB4023057 is not a Feature Update:

    Update to Windows 10, versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, and 1809 for update reliability

It has been re-released many times: KB4023057 installed as program

I don't think there's much to be gained by uninstalling it: How to uninstall KB4023057

Some other Windows Updates, e.g. Servicing Stack Updates, only appear under Programs and Features, Installed Updates rather than Update History.

Thanks for the quick response. The links are very helpful.

If I understand things correctly the KB4023057 is an app (not a windows update) that prepares the Windows OS ready for the next Feature Update (FU) and it lies dormant until triggered by the next FU. Is this correct?

If I uninstall it then a later version of it will be reinstalled prior to the next FU. In my case this will be to v2003. Is this correct?

I don't think we know for sure whether it will ever be re-issued again in the future. It was about solving reasons why some users may have been left behind on versions from previous years, and it has never been released for 1903 or 1909. I doubt whether it will make any difference to anything whether you leave it or uninstall it.

It sounds like a redundant app and I like a 'clean' computer so I'll uninstall it (I have a Macrium Reflect backup) and see what happens. I'll post back on the results just in case it helps anyone else.

    Thanks again for your help.

Feedback FYI - I uninstalled KB4023057 and restarted the computer. It only took 30 seconds to uninstall and there was no prompt to "Restart your computer" but I did restart anyway. Everything loaded fine and a "Check for Updates" showed "You are up-to-date" so it is obviously not needed.

I'll mark this as "Solved" to close the thread.
