    Product Code

I just got a pop up this morning saying my Activation would expire soon. What the heck is with that. I bought my Windows 10 from Walmart. It came with the Product Code.

I did NOT use the windows 10 install that I bought, but I down loaded the ISO from the internet and then used the Product Code to activate Windows 10.

I do NOT understand why I would get that pop up. I should have taken an image of it but crap, I did NOT do that.

    Any info would be helpful.

In a command prompt (admin) run:

    slmgr /dlv

    What are the results?

Bum ISO bud, it's probably got a KMS activator in it.

PS Why nobody using my troubleshooting thingies here ? Trust issues? LOL

... slmgr -dlv will give enough info though...

If it's using kms it would have to activate regularly and it's likely a pirated copy were did you get it from

OK here is everything I can find:

    Product Code-product-code1.jpg

    Product Code-product-code2.jpg

    Product Code-product-code3.jpg
    Image one is the popup.
Image 2 is what I see when I click on "Go to Settings" in Image one.
Image 3 is what I see when I run "slmgr /dlv. I am not at all sure what that is telling me other than my activation will expire in 30 days.

What it appears to want me to do is upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I do NOT want to do this. I also do NOT want it to quit working 30 days.

I paid over $100 at Walmart for Windows 10 Home. It activated fine when I installed Windows 10.

    What the heck is happening?

What has happened is that your key is incorrect. There was an early generic key used for some older installs of Windows 10 Home that had this problem, it incorrectly behaved as a KMS key. Changing your key to the correct generic Home key should fix the problem, as it did in this thread...

Your product key *****H8Q99 was an early generic Home key that is no longer in use. You could try changing the key to the correct generic Home key:

    YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

If your machine has an existing digital licence for 10 Home then it should activate.

Or the product key that came with the version you bought at Wal Mart. If the generic product key does not work.

Bree are you saying to change Product Key to: YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7
and it should now work? Where did that Product key come from?

I mean this PC has been running Windows 10 for about 6 months with the product key that came with it.

I just got Windows 10 running the way want it. I sure do NOT want to screw it up.

That is Microsoft's generic key for Windows 10 Home RTM (Retail). It can be used to install W10 Home but will not activate it. Every machine that had the free upgrade from W7/8 Home to W10 Home has that key, it just specifies you have W10 Home, the actual activation is done by the Microsoft Activation servers. They hold a digital licence linked to the hardware ID for each machine that has been activated, along with a record of the edition (Home or Pro) it is licenced for,

ShowKeyPlus can tell you the full key your Windows currently has, you can also type in a product key to check what type it is. Check your PC, if you find it has the bad generic Home key TX9XD-98N7V-6WM**-**7FG-H8Q99 then changing it to the good generic Home key should solve your problems. If not, then (after checking your original product key in ShowKeyPlus) change the key to that.
