windows major update 1903 installs...like forever?

    Why?...

The updates getting bigger and bigger, and install time is like insane, really unheard of. And one have to finish the update, because when the system reboots, the process starts allover again.

It would at least be nice if the future installations could be done in parts, so once installing and a certain point has reached, this would be definitive, and when the system is rebooted the update continues from there.

My system is updating/installing since yesterday and is now at 50%, ....it's crazieness During installation the system is kind of slow, at times unresponsive, and after all this time once the update has finished, the system needs to restart and again you need to wait for long time before it's ready to use.

I was never thinking about updating, i did see it as part of the process, but i'm now already wondering how much the next update is gonna take?

It depends on the specs of your computer and your internet speed. I avoid the internet speed issue by installing it from an updated ISO in my shop. Does not take that long on a decent processor 8 gig ram and a SSD. Of course not every one has those specs.

The downloading of the update is not the issue, my speed is more then sufficient, in general 100MB down.
The issue is the installing process. I have a decent system with i5 processor and 8GB ram, , and it's just aggravating how long it takes to finish the process. At moment of writing i'm at 75% of finishing and 24h further.

    It's insane....

Correct, but only if you let Windows Update do the install for you. That's because it now uses the Unified Update Platform (UUP) which is optimised for minimum download size at the expense of install speed. Using the MCT to download the ISO and upgrade it yourself is at least twice as fast on any given machine.

Yes, download the Media Creation Tool and use it to download an ISO file.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

You can use the ISO to do a in-place upgrade.

    Thanks again for the info.

I have one last question. After the long wait, the update failed, probably due to time limit (0xc1900104), so i will use MCT now. I already disabled BITS, so that at least i have a control over the update process.

The download of the ISO is finished, and i would like to use the method of mounting the ISO. I don't have experience with this, so i prefer to ask first.
Is this the outcome the same like when using DVD/USB?

If you double-click on the ISO file the default is to mount it as a virtual DVD. You can then run the Setup.exe you'll find on the root of the DVD to start the in-place upgrade.

The whole process is describe in detail starting at Step 4 in this tutorial.
