    Windows Update error 0x80070006

I had to do a repair install with a fresh copy of a v1809 windows 10 iso to fix some problems, and I used powershell to uninstall some windows apps I dont need on a desktop (bingweather, maps, your phone, etc...). Now before that, I could run windows update just fine from the settings page, but now every-time I run windows update, it gives me a "sorry, problems looking for updates, 0x80070006, try again later". I did use the .bat file here to reset windows updates, then I ran a dism /scanhealth and a sfc /scannow check, both didnt find anything wrong. I havent ran a chkdsk scan, but that usually takes the entire half day to finish because of the disk capacity and the like

I did run the windows update troubleshooter a few times in admin mode, but it does detect that there are issues with windows update, but can't find them and keeps it labeled with the yellow ! sign and not the green checkmark (fixed) sign. I did download this troubleshooter from here and used the internal troubleshooter, no dice

I still have the iso ready to do a repair install, and I would really like not having to do a clean install to fix this, so if there's any-other solutions out there, that would be mighty appreciated

Given the history, sounds like a good idea.

    Try
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or powershell prompt to check only and report.

Sounds a bit like you've damaged your installation, and that you could spend a couple of days trying things that might be suggested here, or simply do the repair install again.

The way to deal with this sort of thing more conveniently and robustly is before and after each major change, and periodically, update or create a disk image - as is so often recommended here. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

If you had done that after the last repair install, you could simply have restored that image - faster than a repair install.

Using imaging of C: - Windows you are strongly recommended to keep personal data of C: as far as possible so that is unaffected by OS maintenance.

Note that Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool offers repair of services and WU as some of its options. Choose only relevant repairs if you try this.

It fixed the problem here: (I searched the forum for the error number and looked for a solved thread - you could try that if you want further ideas).
    Windows update dosen't work

I got a system restore point ready in-case something messes up, and if the tweaking.com's windows repair tool doesnt fix anything, ill do a chkdsk scan early in the morning tomorrow, and if it further doesnt fix anything, ill do one more repair install and keep macrium reflect on for img backups, I got another hard drive I can use for macrium backups anyhow, not like ill use it for anything else

    Thank you for your reply.

You should do the chkdsk scan first... basics first.

guess I wont need the tweaking tool, because the error code has been fixed and windows update runs fine, chkdsk did its job. Now if I could only find a valid wsusscn2.cab file I could use with the windows minitool offline scan or the windows update manager offline scan, I'd be happy, but every time I download a copy from microsoft, it keeps saying the digital signature is not valid. Normally I'd stick with the microsoft support website to find one, but is there a place hosting a valid .cab file that would work with offline updates?

I also got a notice from windows update that I can feature update to 1903, but I'd rather wait for one more cumulative update to fix some of the problems it says it has, and I just got my new wifi card in and I need to take the old one out, uninstall some stuff, but thats a different time and issue

I just downloaded one from here:

    This is the link..

Perhaps if you used Free Download Manager (FDM) you might succeed, assuming it accepts the link.

I've been using that go.microsoft.com link multiple times now with IDM and it keeps saying its not valid; im using firefox to download it instead.

And for once, it worked, the digital signature is indeed valid, and I can open it up in any archive program like winrar or 7zip without it saying "bad file dude"

guess ill label this thread as solved, but keep the windows repair tool installer just in-case

Some glitches when downloading? Hence the suggestion of using FDM. Good it worked.
