    What updated?

So my laptop updated, except this time it froze upon updating and would not power down and I had to wait for hours until it had no power left. All I want to know is what has updated exactly? I hate how updates occur sporadically and no information is given on what has even been updated. I forgot where to find out information on what has been included in the update, so if anyone can tell me I'd be grateful, thanks in advance.

View Windows Update History in Windows 10

I would advice against letting Windows install stuff on your PC automatically. Test the updates in a virtual machine and install them offline.

OP may be Home user which limits their ability to control.

Next time your laptop won't power down press the power switch and hold it for 10 seconds. It should power down.

Thanks for the link on updates I will have a look through that. From event viewer it seems a power error caused it to freeze upon updating. As for not allowing Windows to automatically update, I have Shutup10 installed with the feature of disabling updates fully enabled including update via peer to peer. The strange thing is Windows just overrides this and updates without my consent anyway, well not that strange for Windows but annoying nonetheless.

I am the admin and only user, as for switching it off by holding the power down I did that and nothing happened. I have heard of others having the same issue with being unable to power off with this model of Dell laptop. It was either remove the battery or wait for the power to die. Thankfully It doesn't happen often, just once before this happened.

That sounds like a hard lock in BIOS if holding Start button does not shut it off. Pressing Start button for one second invokes command %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00 but if computer is non responsive it can't be invoked.

Think about why you are using this, another manager only confusing you by another way of doing what can be within Windows 10 Home settings.
The recent security update just notified me via the notification centre that a Restart was required to install. That was done when suitable for me.

People are complaining about automatic updates and can't be bothered with their settings and useful ones are available in Windows 10 Home regarding updates even on the Home version.

As for hardware resets on mine you can hold down the Power Off for some seconds, on the underside is pinhole for a reset which disconnects the battery. Also the UEFI has a setting to disconnect the battery for servicing.
No idea what Dell provides in that area.
