Strongly suggest if you do a clean install that it be 1903/1909, not 2004. Still too many holds on 2004, and growing. Put stable 1903/1909 on and wait to see if 2004 is offered to you. DO NOT FORCE 2004!

I just went back to 2004 using MR, but you have to use Rescue Media. It worked.

    Hi all,

Because of the already mentioned Insider Issue I have not been using my Surface Tablet for many months. But before it goes in to the trash I want to give it one more go. . . . . . . . people mentioned to use the media creation tool and put the public release Windows Version on a USB Thumb Drive. But my Surface Table has no USB connection. Now what ?

A question I'd have is which version the the Surface is yours and instead of the 'traditional' USB 2/USB 3 ports does it have a USB-C port? Does it have a port like a cellphone uses? There are SanDisk double-ended 16GB and 32GB drives that can attach to a cellphone or a Notebook.

    Hi Berton

    Thanks for the help

I have a Surface Go and yes, it does have something that looks like a cell phone port. My bro has a lot of crap in hsi magic drawer, perhaps he has a thumbdrive like that.

    -- some time later --

Is my lucky day. He has an adapter for it !

    -- some time later --

Using the tutorial Option 1 over at Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    Fingers crossed

Hopefully the adapter will not block the boot from USB option

Fingers crossed, most times adapters never give a problem but it's still up to trying.

Sorry about that. will fix that.

    The good news is .. . . . . . . .

I managed to get Windows reinstalled on my Surface Go and get rid of the malware named Windows Insider

    Windows 10 Home
    Version 20H2
    OS Build 19042.662
    Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

Took two attempts to create the thumb drive. First time result was 9 bytes on the drive. Not sure what I did ? why it went wrong. But second time it worked ok.

Microsoft wanted a 8GB thumb drive. But using a 7.48GB was no problem

Took a bit fiddling to find out how to change the boot sequence on a Surface but after that the install went fine. Did need to reformat the main partition during the install because of bitlocker though. But that quick format only took 2 seconds.

The result is great. Fresh windows install without the dreaded EVALUATION COPY text on the desktop and without the popup warning THIS WINDOWS VERSION EXPIRES ON JULY 31 2020

Many thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions.
