It failed for me the first time. I guess I was to slow in Regedit and I didn't leave Windows Insiders Settings open.
Since that failure I created a favorite for the the key in Regedit and I open Regedit and get ready before I open Windows Insider Settings and choose Skip Ahead. Then I work fast in Regedit and I leave everything open and immediately restart Windows 10.
And yes both of my 16257.1000 iterations are now on Skip Ahead. One of the iterations was just clean installed yesterday using an ISO for testing something else.

I tested this now on two different new Hyper-V virtual machines, both of them reacted the same way:
When on desktop after clean install, I opted in adding an Insider account, the default Slow ring was selected. The registry trick did not work now by switching to Fast ring > Skip. After restart string ContentType has already been automatically created with value Active, no need to manually create it because switching to Fast ring creates it.
Now, after restart, I opened regedit and double clicked ContentType string to open it for edit, typed Skip as new value but did not click OK to save it. Instead, leaving regedit open I opened Settings and went to Insider settings, switched to Skip ahead and immediately back to reg edit, clicked OK to save ContentType with new value and restarted.
Works like a charm. Both virtual machines, clean installed today are now skipping ahead :)
From post #475.
I open WD, click on the shield, and there are only the following:
scan history
virus & threat protection settings
protection updates
Nothing else. This has happened only in this build, all settings are on.
I am having poor internet speeds and erratic connection at present, but WD reports being up to date.
