    For those that dual boot 'timeout' boot setting was set to zero again.

    @f14tomcat my terminology might have messed it up and perhaps I should have called it an 'app' that opens rather than a pane.

    Installed in just less than an hour (slow internet), no problem with installation. Don't see a fix for online system reset but downloading ISO now. Graphics, specially 3D with Dx11 is still screwed up although not as bad so I'm going to try system reset with all APPs and files kept.

    Wow. A whole lot of things to try out. First I'm going to see if I can 3 updates (Vmware WS 16.1, QEMU/KVM and Gnome Boxes) on Manjaro Gnome Very welcome respite from a harrowing day in the States.

    Hi folks

    made 2 VM's both running fine 1) on VMWare Wks, and 2) on KVM/QEMU -- no problems so far with either of the VM's running on Arch Linux Host usuing kernel 5.10.4

    Not working today so good day to try loads of things out.

    I'm still using W10 Pro Workstation edition -- not sure what its advantages are over "Bog standard" W10 Pro but I got a few licenses free from "my boss" and it definitely seems to have less bloat in it than the "bog standard retail editions" and it can handle Mobos with > 4X CPU's (separate CPU's not just more cores in the individual CPU's).

    @martyfelker

    On KVM Hosts - if you want the Virtual machine to have HOST access on a KVM Host and you don't want to use Bridging or are using Wifi connections (KVM Bridging still currently isn't supported on Wifi) it's easy to to it by creating a 2nd "Virtual Isolated" network for the VM and then the VM can reach the HOST at 192.168.1.254 (or whatever range you choose). The VM in any case can access all other machines on your LAN and the Internet in any case though.

    To do it :

    1) create an Isolated network on the Host say in /tmp/isolated.xml (XML file) -- give it a fixed IP address e.g as shown.

    <network>
    <name>isolated</name>
    <ip address="192.168.254.1" netmask="255.255.255.0">
    <dhcp>
    <range start="192.168.254.2" end="192.168.254.254"/>
    </dhcp>
    </ip>
    </network>

    2) define it via virsh net-define,

    start / auto start it e.g [root@hestur hrafn]# virsh net-define /tmp/isolated.xml

    [root@hestur hrafn]# virsh net-autostart isolated
    [root@hestur hrafn] virsh net-start isolated
    Network isolated marked as autostarted

    Ist Nic define as Host device <nic inteface e'g ethx or empxx or whatever>:macvtap source mode bridge

    add in the VM a second NIC defined as

    2nd Nic Virtual network <name --in my case isolated> device model virtio

    start guest

    Host will be accessible always as 192.168.254.1

    Host IP's

    Windows 10 Insider Preview Dev Build 21286.1 (RS_PRERELEASE) - Jan. 6-screenshot_20210107_100751.png

    The HOST NIC (Real) is the ist device with the green up status (near the top of the screenshot)
    The VM will connect to the HOST via virbr1 (see the green up status)
    The VM will use the "real" network device macvtap -- the green up status towards the bottom of the screenshot.

    additional comments for KVM/QEMU

    With 2 GPU's and IOMMAX working on the Host I'm going to try passthru with the GPU (graphics), and then I'm going to mess around trying to use "Native HDD (well it will be an SSD) for W10 Boot and then try and also passthru one of the CPU's -- which should give a Windows VM system with performance indistinguishable to a physical system.

    USB devices aren't a problem as these can both be "Hot switched" (USB arbitration service) or assigned specifically to the VM.

    Real Horror show in Washington DC --Without involving any more in politics I think there will be a huge sigh of relief when a certain person is no longer on the world stage -- and please stay safe wherever you are - covid itself is a bad enough problem without having to deal with other issues.

    Cheers

    'including adding a new keyword so that typing “lgbtq” will now return the rainbow flag emoji.'
    Windows is now complete. No more updates necessary

    This is indeed a PITA and I've had it as far back as I can recall

    Didn't see it in fixes for this build but System Reset over internet and thru ISO works now. Didn't fix my problem with slower graphics, specially with Dx11 and 3d but works.
    When I reset system using downloaded ISO ,NET also had an update after finishing reset. Looks like they didn't include it although it wasn't necessary after normal update.
    These are now only options for insiders.

    Hi there
    I think those have been the only options for quite a while now

    Here's options on an earlier release (from the beta channel)

    apart from that the release seems to be OK for me (on 2 VMs)
