Well 20236 worked for half a day, now I got three "Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap" bluescreens over time today. Enough is enough of 20236 as far as I am concerned. Back again to 20231 until the next build or until I hear of any fixes to these issues. Dammit!

And now I'm I'm back on 20236..why? Because the 'Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap' errors apparently was due to a setting I changed in Malwarebytes. The 'Block Penetration testing attack' in the Exploit Protection part of the Security section in Malwarebytes. It was disabled-I enabled it and uh oh lol. Gotta be careful changing settings in Malwarebytes I guess..

This .1005 cumulative isn't supposed to do anything noticeable to users. As stated up top, it's to test the servicing pipeline. which is a fancy way of saying to test the way they update the stuff they do.. They send down dumb-dumb pices of code that update a test area and report back yea or nay. Shooting blanks to test the gun.
    Hi there
"An update that isn't supposed to do anything" -- sounds a bit like having a notice on a door saying "This door must never be unlocked " --so why have a door there at all or "Automatic gate - please press green knob to operate " !!

    Cheers

    Hi there
IMO seems a bit pointless to do that type of exercise as part of a release process -- if after all these years WU still isn't working properly one really has to worry about the quality of Project control and Management at Ms.

I know one isn't forced to install updates via the Windows insider program - but surely there's always something they can do to improve the OS etc when releasing an update.

It just seems so pointless and a waste of project resources to me - that would be better spent on areas in the OS where Ms still admits improvements need to be done - for starters can't they do something about File explorer which really looks awfully dated now - and also really get to grips with why so many home users have trouble getting networking or even the simplest file sharing systems to work properly (just follow the Networking and sharing section).

    Cheers

Maybe they are worried that something in this release has screwed up WU.

    Hi there
Surely they do "Internal system testing" before letting a release out of the door -- basic I.T management - 101 !!!!! (works for projects both big and small -- Ms should try it sometime --it really does work !!)

Seems they don't use it though.

Anyway the release seemed to install for me without any issues -- would like the next one to have something more interesting in it -- like for example a decent functioning (persistent across re-boots) sandbox system and an improvement to the WSL where you could install distros of your choice - with a GUI .

Even if these things don't become mainstream there's nothing wrong on Ms putting some of these things into these types of releases - mainstream users won't be on this program anyway.

    Cheers
