You can try the script from Ben. This has helped many people.

    Thank you for sharing this.

Couldn't install the latest Cumulative Update with the same (0x800f0988) error.

Thanks to Ben' shared in Deskmodder forum is the special fix (patch.cmd & broken/missing files inside of SxS folder). It's worked.

Things went well with both PCs in the signature.

(The last time SFC found corruption directly after an update for me, was in March. The March one was a terrible one, because that issue occurred on both PCs.)

SFC corruptions on 2 out of 3 PCs. (The 4th runs Zorin now.) One pass of DISM fixed the two corrupted PCs.

0/3 corrupted here. Did you happen to check them before the CU?

    EDIT:
I just re-sfc one of three updated yesterday and it found corrupt files, but fixed them. Thought sfc was okay yesterday, but maybe I forgot to check it. 2/3 were definitely no errors yesterday.

Found a down side from this new CU update. It seems to have disabled my old Microsoft word 2000 version. It runs and you can type a little, but after about 2-3 minutes, it HANGS. Task manager states its not responding, it is burning cpu cycles but no disk cycles. After some period of time windows states its not responding and asked to cancel or continue. I may have start using the "Open office Writer" from now on and just uninstall old Microsoft word.
Found a further problem kind of severe: Removing a USB memory stick causes a Blue screen with scrambled data (Have no idea what it said - looked like 3 screens on top of one) lasted for 2 seconds and went straight to reboot. After 3 re-boots followed by crashes, it wouldn't boot anymore. Went into recovery and removed the last "Quality Update" ( having a problem saying that word) and now back on 19041.508. Every thing is working again.

What do I need to do to HIDE this update for ever ?

I did a system reinstallation through Media Creation Tool, keeping all my configs and files. It worked.

What problem required the reinstallation? I've had to do that before when Windows Search stopped working a few months back with 2004 and other fixes I tried didn't work.

Just popped a USB in with music, played a few track, and ejected it via File Manager then removed it with no issues. Did you nicely eject it first to keep Windoze happy?

I think I done it wrongly without the kb4579311 update file.
    Will try again tomorrow.
Thanks, moinmoin. Finally managed to install the kb4579311 patch using the Ben script with the kb4579311 downloaded from catalog in same folder.

No. It's because I've never quite discovered something 'broken' in between updates.

On system number one, which has 1909, no SFC corruption report.

On system number two, which has 2004, no SFC corruption report.
