Yep, that's pretty much what happened when I tried updating my backup system using all 3 methods - Windows Update, Update Assistant, USB via MCT tool = epic fail.
I might try a clean installing the update sometime this weekend seeing the backup system is now in an infinite boot loop (probably caused by something else).
Not happy with this build at all...
For first time I couldn't upgrade the system to version 2004 via WU. What is that supposed to mean and what is this WU for? Downloaded the iso from MCT, with no problems installed. Things I have noticed:
- Cortana is an app, doesn't respond to voice, only writing. In order to cleanup, what you have "chatted" with her, you have to signout from Cortana and signin again...
- @Brink, the tutorial "Clear Windows update history" seems not working any longer...
- I was offered right after the clean install, CU KB4556803, which turned to be for Insider Preview...
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...date-kb4556803 Have nothing to do with it...
- Where should I find the CPU temperature in Task manager, it is not there...
- In Settings, Accounts, Your Info, there are my account picture and one more - empty one. What is that for, if I am the only owner and admin of this laptop...?
- Cortana settings disappeared but instead, it adds startup item in apps...
Don't know what to say, very disappoined of this last version. Why the folks from MS just not keep the already-set and working features of Windows 10 always steady and improve the things, which only need to be? Can't get it...
Used the media ISO to replace an Insider Release version...it replaced it with the same Insider version.
Had to do a clean install to get rid of it....as have an M$ account, files and folders were easily restored, Apps needed to be reinstalled.....Downloaded Edge Beta....this removed the old version.....this I found surprising as both ran together prior to the Update.
Hello Ivan,
The clear Windows Update history tutorial will not remove an update from being available. It will only clear the history logs of installed updates.
Did you want the reset Windows Update tutorial instead?
Had some free time so decided to use the assistant and upgraded to 2004. All went smooth and took 25 min to desktop. May wait for the updates to come to the other 2 systems.
Cheers
Sorry guys for taking so long before getting back to your posts. You will understand that I had an issue of the utmost importance; and it took me the whole day to fix. I started the morning by getting the FU 2004 from the Update Assistant for both of my machines.— Although, I said in a previous post that I was going to wait until offered by WU.
Everything went smooth for the upgrade on both machines, except for my production machine where, after completion my MR was not working. I couldn't do a backup. Problem reason: After the upgrade, my paid Home Edition had changed to Free Edition. It is a no brainer to say that without my MR working properly, it is like I don't even have a computer,,, really skating on thin ice. Short story is that I had to uninstall and reinstall with the help of my purchase receipt, and redo a fresh full backup. Weird thing is, my second non-production machine didn't show any sign of the MR issue.
With that aside, @sygnus21, I don't have any dedicated sound card and if I have an integrated one in the mobo, I dont' really know how to look for that, but I can do a little research. Regarding both headsets stopping to work at the same time after an update, it had happened to me (probably 8 months to 1 year ago) and after that I never had it again— MS probably fixed it for me in a CU.
@Rocky, maybe in a foreseeable future if the same thing happens to me again, I will definitely look for a USB-DAC.
Cheers!
