Another Acronis user here.
It works great for backup images, particularly if you do them manually from boot media as I do.
I actually hate the installed software interface and bloated features. I find it relies too much on automated tasks and stuff running in the background. I install it just long enough to create bootable media and then uninstall it.
Works for me. Backups are fast, accurate, never had a problem with an image since 2007.
I tried Macrium based on all the cheer-leading in these forums. It was fine and seemed to work just as well as Acronis (from boot media). But I was unable to get one of my PCs to boot from the media so it was just not going to work in my environment. That is a localized issue - I found nothing wrong with Macrium.
For what it is worth, when the message is that posters should be using imaging backups - very good advice - the message should be to use any imaging program that works. The messaging that Macrium is the only program worthy does have a evangelical ring to it.
2 cents.
