Wouldn't it be a cold day in hell when Microsoft gave us some error messages the layman could understand? Instead of "we couldn't update....code is 05467AADXE" maybe "we couldn't update because PLACEBO.SYS is missing" or even "we couldn't update, please run SFC /scannow".
When they code the updates they obviously check whether certain conditions apply or not, and whether certain files exist or not to be able to either continue with the update or abort.
So if they can check, why can't they just tell us why it fails instead of lazy half assed coding with an error code.
Lets face it a game will tell you DXFABRICATED.DLL is missing, a graphics app will tell you "that's not an image file", a video player will tell you "that is not a video file" etc.
Just a little more information would be nice so even the less technically minded could sort issues out or know where to look for help.
