    The latest download date on MUC is 8/28/2019, so no need to do anything.

    " an update to the release notes "............ok , so do we have to uninstall the previous ( august ) and install this latest , or its ok already ..........???

    I have wondered the same. I did this a while back and ran into that issue. I'm assuming you can just uninstall and reinstall. Shouldn't hurt.
    @pietcorus2 and Guitarmageddon:

    if you already have KB4497165 "V2" installed (the 2019-08 version) you do not need to remove it.

    as Brink said, only the "release notes" for KB4497165 were changed but the actual patches have not.

    Why don't you guys first check if your chips ucode even has an update?
    My 9900K is still at AE.

    This update might be only for new chips that came out(10th gen), or might be for older ones.

    Right. What I'm saying is, in the past, microcode has had an update (not talking about whatever the circumstances are today) but windows flags you as the update being installed. This is when I was on 1809. I coincidentally updated to 1903 at that time so I just downloaded the new microcode update with my fresh windows, so the issue solved itself. However, when there is new microcode released via this same update number, it will flag it as being already installed. In that case, what do you do

    Get it from a BIOS update if you are on a newer chipset/cpu gen.
    If not, looks like one needs to just wait for the next update.

    Many people use Ccleaner and such, and also clean out the updates folder with Windows built in cleaner(Storage in the settings app or Disk cleanup), and that nukes the install folder for updates, meaning they won't be able to uninstall the update either.

    Right , if you can find this KB-number in the list of installed updates , there is no need for uninstall/install again............

    No, it will always be the same KB number that's the issue. Ok so I think when my MC is updated, I will just uninstall the update and reinstall then. I do my own MC updates and my own Intel ME firmware updates, because I don't chance it with bios issues. That's why I do it this way on a newer cpu/chipset

    This update is confusing. The preamble says - Intel Microcode updates for the following products (CPUs) have been revised.

    Valley View
    Cherry View
    Haswell Desktop
    Haswell M
    Haswell Xeon E3
    Gemini Lake
    Apollo Lake

    Then further down it says - Important Install this update for the listed processors only and gives a table listing many CPUs over many generations.

    I just updated all my PCs of varying ages to v1903 and none had this update via Windows Update despite being listed in the table. I installed this update anyway and it shows as installed in Update History.

    I used the useful script by ddelo which shows the update does nothing on my new ProBook since the microcode is loaded by UEFI (there was BIOS update last week)

    @Steve C,

    When the OS starts its loading process upon boot, it first checks the BIOS/UEFI microcode and compares it with latest one for your CPU ( i.e the one proposed by Intel ).
    If your UEFI microcode is up to date, its loaded and the OS disregards the one from Windows Update.
    If it's not up to date, then the microcode from Windows Update is loaded.

    In other words if your UEFI is up to date, then the Windows Update microcode (if installed), can be uninstalled as it's not used.
