    Hi there

    @f14tomcat

    uupdump will get you the iso's

    VBOX what a POS compared with vmware -- cannot get any sensible input to the VM even on guest install I can't scroll down list even to change language for install. Nothing will move selection down from English USA at top of list.

    Thanks for your efforts but IMO VBOX can go down the drain --I'm quite an experienced user and if I've got problems with setting up a VM -- well 'nuf said. I didn't have problems either with HYPER-V but that's another issue as HYPER-V can't do a few things I need.

    Uninstalling VBOX !!! and will wait until VMWare gets a fix for this or similar builds.

    Cheers

    Are you saying that even though MS had closed Skippy for new registration, if you DL the 18836 ISO and update with it, you will be registered as being in the Skip Ahead ring?

    I'm aware of UUPDUMP and all the other flavors of obtaining an ISO of anything.

    Hi there

    @CountMike

    Am trying VBOX on this build but I'm flummexed.

    With VMWARE it's easy with ctrl enter etc to get to full screen mode and input to VM with mouse

    I've got this message every time I try and use the mouse when installing a GUEST VM with VBOX
    Might be me being stupid but I don't have a right ctrl key.

    Attachment 224454

    How can I change the Mouse key and how can I switch guest to full screen mode and back again

    I know after guest installed to install vbox additions.

    probably stupid questions to a seasoned vbox user but I'm finding the interface a bit frustrating -- still I want to persever with a simple quick Linux guest.

    Cheers

    It just means that the mouse has been captured by the guest and you need to press the host key (Right CTRL) if you want to return the mouse to the host. When you install guest additions that will all be seamless with the mouse automatically captured & released. Some Linux installers such as Linux Mint know they are running in VBox and have a version of guest additions built in and some distros take a cut down version of guest additions from the repository and you don't need to install guest additions separately.

    It won't let you. Far as I know, you get a message saying "Skip Ahead is Closed", etc....

    Actually, not sure what you will get if you take an 18836 ISO and try to update an 18334 Fast Ring. It may balk, it may not activate, it may work. I don't think I've seen where anyone has tried it. It's like forcing it thru a closed door with a crowbar. I would be interested to see what happens. Make sure you have a good backup first.

    I recently did a reset on a Skippy build I had, and it forced me back to Slow, because I got the message Skippy was closed and I couldn't change it.

    Skip Ahead will let you click on it but it just reverts back to fast. I upgraded both Fast Ring PC' s from ISO and they work Fine and are both registered. I have no problems with either of them. Both now show 18836.1 for the Build.

    You don't even have to be opted in for Insider program, Fast or Skippy rings. Just download the ISO and upgrade.

    Hi folks

    never been registered for any of these builds -- just create the iso like Kari says, run the setup.exe and you are good to go.

    Hi there

    @kado897

    what if you don't have right ctrl key.

    I think you missed the difficulty I had -- it was IN the guest and there was no way the mouse would work so I couldn't even begin to select the installation options of my Guest VM after it booted up from the install ISO.
    Even the keyboard wouldn't allow me to scroll down through the drop down from the first question on installing the Guest -- choose language --it just stuck at the top line (ENG USA) and I couldn't scroll down.

    Same install was a breeze in vmware.

    I've found no way of getting the mouse to work -- also I think you need to actually have the guest up and running to install the VBOX additions --- my problem starts before that -- even INSTALLING the guest !!!!!

    Anyway I'm not wasting any more time on it -- I just don't like it compared with VMWare - but thanks for all your suggestions and help anyway -- people will always be more comfortable with different software --there really isn't a "One size fit's all".

    I did have a go at it -- but that's it.

    Cheers

    You can set the host key in preferences. The default is right ctrl which I don't have either, mine is alt gr.
