I have decided to try this build but wondered if anyone uses the preview builds as their main operating system, or are people dual booting?

I've been using insider builds as main OS since the beginning (it's Skippy) as there was nothing that would cripple the system into unusable stage. For a while I used W7 as a "spare " system with dual BOOT to it but that doesn't work with my new HW so I had to drop it, Now it's regular version as spare system. It's all at defaults though and I drop to it only for updates. I also have good old standby Linux Mint but for other reasons.
For a while, I had W7 + W8/8.1 on another computer but even that one is only W10 in Fast ring. Don't use that one much though. Despite some annoyances, Skippy works fine as main system, for me at least. Only caveat is that some programs may have troubles adjusting to some Skippy and fast changes but that usually get's fixed after a build or two.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Is there a way to do a fresh install with the latest insider build or do you always have to update through Windows Update?

There are several ways to acquire insider versions, instructions are at first page of post about new build. You can also start from Update section in Settings menu but I believe that Skippy is not available for new user, only fast and slow. Whichever build you choose it's always possible to use for clean install.

    Hi folks
As I don't do a huge amount with Windows these days I'm quite happy to have a spare computer running the skippy as its main OS (I always take images so reverting back isn't a problem).

Rarely unlike a lot of other people have I encountered any serious problems with running these builds apart from some odd minor defects such as language menus operating in a mixture of languages when you add another display language.

However on this latest one - VMWARE causes a problem (GSOD) when you try and start a Guest OS. VMWare is a must have program for me currently so I've restored back to a previous version until feedback from Ms/Vmware confirms the defect is fixed.

This is one time where you actually need to run the OS on a real machine rather than in a virtual machine -- having nested levels of VM's (i.e a VM within a VM) gives pretty poor performance - especially using a laptop. !!

I wouldn't though if you are working for a client on a freelance contract etc use these builds for that type of work -- if you run into problems - could cause you loss of money if you can't finish your assignments in time. !!

    Cheers

    Hello Edwin,

If you let it slide too long, Windows 10 will eventually no longer start. The top of the tutorial below can give you more details on all this though.
