I came here for this exact reason, it's Not Functional at All! Does Anybody know how to enable DTS:X?
While I fully agree, at this point it's a Site's Own Fault along with Microsoft's PNG Encoder, all CMS Systems have Solution's for Exactly This.
Proof Below (
Same Image, Half The JPEG Size, no Cheats like Decreasing Resolution or Removing Detail from you're Original PNG)
Here's a simple example.
Below is Kari's screenshot at 4K resolution, first up is Kari's Original JPG image, then the Re-Encoded with a Decent PNG Encoder (From the Original 1.18MB PNG, over 75% File Size Reduction!)
The PNG image is HALF the size of the JPG image, while maintaining 100% Pixel Perfect Lossless Compression.
Kari's JPG: (
Original PNG was 1.18MB)
Optimised PNG:
^^^ Download to see I've Not Faked The File Size ^^^
It's 100% about how the Image Is Saved by the PNG Encoder, in this Case
Microsoft have Failed to do any Optimisation on the PNG Encoder side.
Many site's now utilise 3rd Party Encoder's to Decrease Upload PNG File Sizes and Addon's exist for Every Major CMS to do Exactly This. Even JPEG's can be decreased without any visual difference by drastic sizes by new Smart Libraries! (Some are form's of AI)
Sorry Kari, please know this is not aimed at you but Microsoft!
We all need to be complaining to Microsoft via Feedback Hub to Optimise their Encoder (At very least to set Compression Level to 9, Remove Alpha Channel if Not Used, and implement many of the addition's Open Source Encoder Libraries now have including one's in Ubuntu)
