How can you tell which version is in the media creation tool download?

FYI, the build is 17134.1
So that means we'll be updating to .5 right after install.... lame...

The MCT will have all versions for your region. If you don't input a key, it will ask what version you want to install.

So since the TechNet file is from Microsoft's server, is it safe to say the MCT will install the spring creators update? Or should I download the ISO and make a bootable USB?

You can download the ISO using MCT.

Just downloaded the ISO , its, indeed , 1803-17134.1 and 4,25GB .
So, after upgrade, we will get 17134.5 , latest............
Now making boot-DVD with this ISO !

The MCT page says right on it what version is available. In a while it will change from Fall Creators to April 2018 Update, and you'll know.
