Cumulative Update KB4054517 Windows 10 v1709 Build 16299.125
-
Windows Defender definitions fail to update since 1.259.151.0
Yeah my one keeps failing on .218 with error 0x80070643, tried opening defender to update from within app but get fatal error during installation message error -214023293
I thought the latest cumulative update had something to do with it but I just checked reliability history and it’s been failing all day. Early this morning it failed on a different definition
I have 3 machines here which fail with the same error and the last definition version on these is from yesterday 1.259.151.0.
I get Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.259.221.0) - Error 0x80070643
Several other machines updated ok to 1.259.221.0 and I guess they must have had another definition version as base.

Hi,
@
DooGie: In all honesty, I'm that odd guy running MS Office Enterprise 2007 on Win 10. All these little applets ? I hardly use any of these and truth be told, I wouldn't even know what most are actually used for...
Guess that makes me a true desktop user...
Cheers,
Well I can go with that. My Wife used to work for the NHS in the UK so we had licences for Office Enterprise 2007 then Office 2010 Pro. Now my daughter works in Education so we get a license for Office 2016.
So yes Frank, True desktop users. Perhaps we are getting a bit sad in our old age

Hi,
Perhaps we are getting a bit sad in our old age
Actually you're right about that. I like a spade to be a spade and nothing else really. Never been a fan of hybrid stuff. It just not the real beef, is it.
On a more social note, I'm having a couple of friends over for New Year from the UK. Love the UK and they love Belgium. Great !
Cheers and take good care,

Failed to install four times so far on my computer; waiting for the process to finish on my wife's computer.
The install process quickly goes to 100%, followed by a restart required; there is no attempt during the restart to finish the process, not a single don't turn off your computer while we update it.
After the second or third failure, I got a `read to download' message; don't recall what then happened.
Update history says that a restart is needed to install update for Flash; still there after four restarts.
While i was writing this, Updates said machine was up-to-date, but now says it is ready to install the KB4054517, which i doubt will do anything other than force yet another useless restart.
Worst incident of this nature for quite a long time, sigh.
Just checked wife's machine before posting: KB is ready, the other three updates all say 'waiting to install"; I vaguely remember seeing something of that nature when I started to update my computer.
===
Later:
Wife's computer updated quickly, with one small exception: The update for Windows Defender failed. I clicked on retry, which worked, so restarted computer, which went directly into updating windows, finished the process.
On my machine, i forced a download of a new copy of B4054517, turned off MalwareBytes, turned off firewalls, sixth install failed. Windows Update then installed a new copy, or at least it said that it did. I watched the install process, not for the first time, where I saw it go to 10%, then just sit there until it jumped to 100%, which seems wrong. At any rate, I have now accumulated seven failures, and as Update keeps trying, I expect to find an eighth failure tomorrow morning. This is by far the worst episode since the earliest days of the release of Windows 10, and I am certain that I have never had anywhere near seven consecutive update failures. (And, yes, the need to restart to finish the Flash update is still there, and to me is quite suspicious.)

4 computers installed the updates but one did not and after reported as failed, it kept reporting Computer as up to date. I removed the update, it then redownloaded it and installed successfully.

I am having the same issue with KB4054517 - will not install via windows update (tried 3 times) so downloaded it and installed - that completed and then I restarted - now sat on the standard getting updates ready for a couple of hours now
hopefully, it decides to finish overnight
***UPDATE***
3 hours later - it finished after the manual install - No idea why it was so slow my device is an i7 all SSD 32GB Ram but hey all the speed in the world and all I needed was some patience
If anyone else needs it I downloaded from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4054517

Update went well. Was quick!:)

I've tried a few tweaks, hints and advices, but nothing seems to work. My pc (running w10 FCU Enterprise) won't find cumulative updates. Every other update it finds, downloads and installs fine..but no cumulatives. I was stuck on FCU .19 until I manually downloaded and installed the previous cumulative from MS catalog which updated my win version to .98 hoping that would solve the issue...no joy. Just today I forced an updates' search and it found and installed a flash security update, a ms word and office security update, new definitions for defenders and something else...but no kb4054517. What could be causing this? Is there anything else I could try?
EDIT: How about this? Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 Windows Update Activation Tutorials
would that fix the issue?

same issue here, may be because of "W10 FCU Enterprise"
