However installing XP from scratch in my case wouldn't be what I'd want to do -- most of those old programs I'd use on the Windows XP system (and actually using) have long since disappeared from my storage -- and even the vendors are no longer in business so there was no choice other than the P2V method which I did years ago and kept the VM.
However you can using XP version SP3 with the last Ms update (I think it was around 2015) and nlite the SATA AHCI drivers to slipstream the OS create an installable iso with SATA drivers.
I tested the XP VM by creating a second Virtual Disk (IDE) and copying the system to it. It wouldn't boot so I decided not to waste any more time on that -- but at least I "had a go".
