User account disappear but home dir OK

    Hello,

My computer had a glitch and after rebooting it I cannot see my account (enrix) at the login screen. I can login as administrator and I can see the home directory C:\Users\enrix is there with all its files. I am not very technical and I have read that recreating a new enrix account may overwrite the previous one and may delete files. My question is how can I create a new enrix account and give it the C:\Users\enrix home directory without losing any file?

    Many thanks,

    enrix

Hi, I would advise you to use chkdsk to check your file system first:
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Then maybe you can reactivate the account using this
    net user USERNAME /active:yes
from an administrative command prompt, where USERNAME = enrix.

Then if successful, disable the administrator account.

    Hi dalchina,

thanks for your reply. I have tried your suggestions and few others I have found on the internet but at the end the only one that worked was to run a system restore.

    thx,

    Enrico
