Cannot hide email address on login screen

Setting up an old Levono laptop for my grandaughter for her classwork.

I reset the laptop back to factory and used her email address to set a Microsoft/Windows account.

I have been trying to remove her email address from the login screen at startup for her privacy.

The laptop is set to use 'ctrl-alt-delete' and then enter her pin.

Her Microsoft account shows her Name and email address and Your Info shows her email address.

Have tried Control Panel to change names etc.
Have tried using 'settings/accounts/sign-in options/privacy' and turned off 'show my account details'.
Have also used regedit 'Hkey_Local_Machine\software\policies\microsoft\windows\system' and set up a dword 32bit for 'BlockUserFromShowingAccountDetailsOnSignin'. Tried setting the value data '0' or '1' with no effect.
Am I doing something wrong or something else causing the problem.

    System Info Windows 10 Pro - 64bit - Ver 22H2 - Installed 04/12/2023 - OS build 19045.3758 - Updating daily

    Hello,

Usually, you would indeed us an option in the tutorials below to either turn off or disable showing the email address on the sign-in screen.

You might also check option three or four in the second link below to see if that security policy may apply.

One method I use to remove the Microsoft Account is to create a new User as a Local Account with Admin rights, reboot into it then remove the Microsoft Account. For use in public groups a Password could be assigned.

Just got a new 15" HP Notebook with Win11, [cheap at $179 thanks to holiday sales] fairly snappy in use, main attraction was the included Microsoft Office 365 for a year. During setup it needed the Microsoft Account but instead of a password had to set a PIN. It shows my name on the log-in screen but does not show the E-Mail I used. In C:\Users my folder uses only the first 5 characters of the E-Mail address I used.

Unless someone is looking over her shoilder or that email is just a outlook .com that never gets used but for login, there is really nothing to worry about.

    OK, thanks for the replies.

The laptop will be used for her school work, so maybe best to hide her email address on screen.

So I ran through as per the tutorials and done the 'Settings sign-in method', 'gpedit.msc', 'secpol.msc' and 'registry dwords'.
Nothing changes, still shows her email address on sign-in screen and no name.
Went to 'netplwiz' properties and added her full name beneath her user name.
If I shut down the pc on finishing my session and restart a new session going thru ctrl-alt-delete and thru to sign-in, her name appears and email hidden.

If at anytime the pc asks to be restarted to complete a task, applications, program removal etc. It all reverts back to showing her email. Can go to 'netlpwiz' and re-insert her name in properties and if I end the session/shut down and restart at a later time.
Her name appears and no email.

    Any suggestions ??

When I rehab computers [won't let any go to landfill until I've saved usable parts] and Windows setup requires a Microsoft Account I use a free E-Mail account such as at mail.com during setup then when finished as that first User is set as Administrator I create another User as a Local Account with Administrator rights then reboot into that new account. A password doesn't have to be assigned in the Local. Then I remove the Microsoft Account User. If the next user of one of those computers wants to they can add their Microsoft Account. Doing it this way allows me to give computers to where needed or donated, sent 4 Notebooks to Honduras with a missionary last year.

If used at school the student(s) email is already going to be known. Most schools will use a domain for students to connect to when on their wifi and will use appropriate measures for how they log in.

You could set it to automatically boot to her account- no login screen..
