Password dilemma - needed for "Log in" but not for Boot up

Technically speaking, if you want to remove the password for the example you stated above, then you can disable your account from having a password.

So when you boot up your computer, you don't want to type in a password.
If you log off your account, and want to log back in, then you don't want to type in your password.

It is best that you completely remove your account's password, since you want to completely avoid typing in your password to log into your account. Correct?

Netplwiz doesn't actually 'turn off' your password. It can set up the PC to sign in with your chosen account name and password at start up, but this only occurs at start up. If you sign out then you'll be asked to choose the account to sign in with (in case there is more than one account on this PC) and to provide its password. Even if you set a blank password for yor account you'll still be asked to click an 'OK' button to sign in, there just won't be a box to type a password.

What type of user account is it?
- Local account?
- MSAccount-linked user account?

If it is an MSAccount-linked user account then you must have a password i.e. you cannot achieve what you want.

If it is a local user account then you can have a blank password i.e. enter nothing in the password box when changing it.

You have to redo the netplwiz steps whenever you change a password - unset then redo the bypass. At one time this was not possible for a blank password but it's years since I last saw that for myself.

If your account is a local account then you can set a blank password. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Click on Password and then on the Change button.



You'll be asked for your current password. Then at this screen just leave it blank and click Next.
