Password dilemma - needed for "Log in" but not for Boot up

I use Windows 10 Home latest edition
When I turn my PC on, it boots straight into my home screen, without the need for a password or code.
That’s because I was able to use netplwiz to turn it off.
However, when I select “Log off” in the Shut Down tab of the Start Menu, the screen blanks to “Signing off” then returns, but requires a password.
I can get back in using a password, but like for Boot up I don’t want to have to use one.
What I don’t understand is having successfully achieved no-password for booting up,
why do I now require one for Log in.
    How can I solve this.

Technically speaking, if you want to remove the password for the example you stated above, then you can disable your account from having a password.

So when you boot up your computer, you don't want to type in a password.
If you log off your account, and want to log back in, then you don't want to type in your password.

It is best that you completely remove your account's password, since you want to completely avoid typing in your password to log into your account. Correct?

Netplwiz doesn't actually 'turn off' your password. It can set up the PC to sign in with your chosen account name and password at start up, but this only occurs at start up. If you sign out then you'll be asked to choose the account to sign in with (in case there is more than one account on this PC) and to provide its password. Even if you set a blank password for yor account you'll still be asked to click an 'OK' button to sign in, there just won't be a box to type a password.

    Hello @1 Reflection,

Does this help ? > Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup

I know the above is for Startup, but have a look at the 'Related Tutorials' at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial [ there are a few ], as they may also be related.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you both for your replies

    pepanee - you understand correctly.

Bree - you said "Even if you set a blank password for yor account you'll still be asked to click an 'OK' button to sign in, there just won't be a box to type a password." and that is exactly what I am trying to achieve, but I don't know where / how I "set a blank password." Perhaps you could advise please.

Paul Black thanks for your reply.
There's a lot there, but I'll wait for a reply from Bree,
because his suggestion promises the simplest solution.

What type of user account is it?
    - Local account?
    - MSAccount-linked user account?
How to Tell if Local Account or Microsoft Account -TenForumsTutorials

If it is an MSAccount-linked user account then you must have a password i.e. you cannot achieve what you want.

If it is a local user account then you can have a blank password i.e. enter nothing in the password box when changing it.
Change passwords of Local ... Accounts - TenForumsTutorials
You have to redo the netplwiz steps whenever you change a password - unset then redo the bypass. At one time this was not possible for a blank password but it's years since I last saw that for myself.

If your account is a local account then you can set a blank password. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Click on Password and then on the Change button.

You'll be asked for your current password. Then at this screen just leave it blank and click Next.
