    No local account options.

I cannot switch to local account. on "info" there is no option to switch only manage MS account.

I tried to add another account same problem. No such option to make it a local account.

My other two desktops are recent updates to Win10 but the PC in question has been running W10 for over a year and a half now.

Should I do an upgrade in place see if that fixes it?

This is causing me networking problems.

Have you tried to disconnect from the Internet before you tried to create a new account?

"sign in with a local account instead" is missing

What is the name of your account? I's not the built-in Administrator account is it? If so you have a big problem....

There is a very specific of circumstances that can lead to the built-in Administrator account being switched from being a local account to a Microsoft account. The sequence goes like this:

    • You have enabled the Administrator account on a Windows 7 PC and use it as your only account.
    • You upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10, continuing to only sign in as Administrator.
    • You sign into the Store with your MS account. When asked 'use this account everywhere?' you click Next. This switches the account you are signed in with to a Microsoft account.

As Microsoft intended it that it should not be possible to switch Administrator from a local account to a Microsoft account then they made no provision for switching it back. If this is the case here, then the only solution is a clean install.

I have now replicated your situation and can confirm the loophole in Windows 10 you have accidentally found. I installed Windows 7, activated the built-in administrator account and removed all other user accounts. I then upgraded to Windows 10 which after the upgrade naturally had only this one user account, the built-in administrator account.

This allowed me to connect the built-in administrator account in Windows 10 to a Microsoft account and use Windows Store to download apps. Notice that because the default restrictions, this is normally not possible; when the built-in admin account is used as it should, not as a sign-in account to Windows but solely for administrative tasks it is not possible to use most of the Windows Apps with it (Store, Edge and so on), and it cannot be converted to a Microsoft Account.

The loophole you found, activating the built-in admin in previous version and then upgrading to Windows 10 using it seems to override all default security restrictions on the said built-in admin account, making it possible to connect it to a Microsoft account. However, as this is meant never to happen, once you have converted the built-in admin account to a Microsoft account, it is no longer possible to convert it back to a local account. It is absolutely impossible....

When I later booted it was then in local account. Perhaps the switch happened at reboot? Don't know but all seem to now be local accounts. I don't have any desire to use MS Account to access anything where I can avoid it.

Thanks...this seems SOLVED although I have no clue how...

There is a tool called Account Profile Fixer. It puts your files aside and deletes your account. After rebooting your PC, it will sign you into a temp account and recreate your account. Yor files will be reapplied. Just by the nature of making a new account you will have a local account and not a Microsoft account. I only lost my wallpaper but that's it. Here's a link to the tool: Account Profile Fixer

    Hope that helps!
