    Local account still requires password

I set up my pc using a local account not a Microsoft account. I then ran netplwiz and unticked "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". This having been done, it generally boots up without the need for a password; however, on a regular basis it will bring up the password screen when starting the computer for the first time. If I click on restart (as opposed to entering a password) it invariably boots up the second time without asking for a password. I should add that it never happens when coming out of sleep.

This is more irritating than problematical but I wonder if anyone has any idea why it should happen?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

In case the intermittent problem means there is a fault in your user profile that Windows is sometimes able to cope with & sometimes not, create an additional [i.e. spare] password-protected local Admin account and write the password down somewhere accessible yet secure.

Having that spare Admin account means it will be easy to get back into the computer if your existing user account degrades further and never lets you log in.

Maybe you have Password Expiration set to 'Enabled'?
Password Expiration is a feature in Windows that forces a local account on the PC to change their passwords when a specified maximum (42 days by default) and minimum ( 0 days by default) password age has been reached.
It can be disabled via elevated command prompt. The picture is from an article by 'Brink' on this forum but I think it was a long time ago.

As per OP, I have run netplwiz and done the necessary there and my password is set to never expire. Call me timid but I am reluctant to change things in the registry. The duplicate local account seems a wise precaution thank you, but otherwise I think I have to accept this is one of those W10 aberrations and that it will keep happening. Thanks for the various ideas.
