Help. Locked Out of My Win10 Computer.

I have a win10 computer in the shed that I used to use a lot but haven't used for about 6 months. And now I can't get into it.

    Can't remember the password.

Thought I could but it's wrong. Even my password hint matches what I thought it was but still doesn't work.

So I went to try Kyhi after googling a bit but there seems to be only one app on there for this: NTPWedit. And when I try it I get told that the System is in Hibernation and modifying it in that state could be very dangerous. Trash my files maybe or something.

So it says reboot the host system and do a restart instead of a shutdown.

Well to do this reboot I have to first let it boot to the system drive rather than to my Kyhi USB.

Then after the reboot it will want to go back there - it doesn't give me a BIOS option.

So I have to crash it. Then I can set the BIOS option for the USB.

    And that's what I did.

And it didn't help. NTPWedit still reports the system as in Hibernation.

Anything I can do about all this? I guess that might have been a loophole that MS have closed.

Do we have any alternatives before yet another new install?

Password reset - from the tutorial section: a quick search:
Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10

But it sounds as if you've other problems.

Disk imaging... disk imaging... oh, did I mention disk imaging?

I see nothing there that helps me. Haven't read it all but read a lot... all about changing passwords and whatever after you're in... I can't get it.

all about using microsoft account instead of local account... i don't have any option to do such a thing....

i've made images... thanks for reminding me... they should be accessible via kyhi... would you believe I didn't even think of it....

but what about this hybernation thing and NTPWedit? Why does it think I can go back and boot to host, etc.? The app is intended for changing the admin password once you're already in the machine, like from a non-admin account?

p.s. and a disk image isn't going to help here, is it, I'll still be looking at a system I don't have a password for...

Thank you very much for your reply.

    You said

    Can't remember the password.
I gave you a way to recover from that - resetting your password.

If you can't follow the tutorial, post questions in the comments after the tutorial.
    More linked tutorials are listed.

Or ask a more technical friend perhaps.

Password ... to get into the computer, or get into Windows? Post a screen shot of the point at which you're asked for a password.

You can use Hiren's BootCD PE to reset Windows password.

    Download | Hiren's BootCD PE

    • Boot your computer with Hiren’s BootCD PE.
    • Goto Start Menu -> Securiy -> Passwords -> NT Password Edit
    • Open your SAM file (It is usually located in C:\Windows\System32\config\SAM).
    • Click your username and the click ‘Change password’. To set a password, type your password both ‘New password’ and ‘Verify’ fields and then click to ‘OK’. To remove the password, leave both ‘New password’ and ‘Verify’ fields blank and then click to ‘OK’.

Find a flash drive you can format (> or = 8 GB).

    Create a bootable Ubuntu iso:

Run through the steps in this link and see if they work:

wouldn't that be just the same as what I've tried with Kyhi? And I'll just get the message about it being in Hibernation again?

Or would it be a newer better version of NTPWEdit? In which case perhaps I could download that somewhere - save me the trouble of doing something with this ISO ?

Follow-up on what has already been recommended because if one of them works for you, then you’ll have recovery media available for you in the future.
--- I know you are concerned about “wouldn't that be just the same as what I've tried with Kyhi? And I'll just get the message about it being in Hibernation again?” per your post #8.
--- You won’t know if you don’t try each of the recommendations to find out which one will work for you especially since trying to clear out the hibernation issue is a real challenge unless you can change your password in order to get into your account.

    Also check out the following

The PC has been unused for about 6 months plus it was stored in the shed.
--- When you get into BIOS, does it have the correct date & time?
--- If not, you probably need a new CMOS battery CR 2032 in my experience.
--- Double-check what’s in your PC to ensure you replace it with the correct one.

Then there’s option 5 To Reset Password of your Local Account at Sign-in
Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10
In which you can use the answers to your security questions in order to reset your password.
    Have you tried that yet?

Please fill in your system specs for the PC you are working on.

Yes. Doesn't work. I get a 'password wizard' that wizardly does nothing for me seeing I don't have a password reset disk.

I've got two pc's on that thing already and it only has space for two. If it makes a difference this shed computer is a custom build on an Asus H61-MK board with a i3-6100 @ 3.7Ghz
