    User accounts / login screen

Hello, I have two issues and I suspect they are related.

    I am using Windows 10 version 1909.

Ultimately, I want to disable the login screen when starting windows.

I have unchecked the box that asks for a password under netplwiz, and unchecked the box for password login under power and sleep settings.

I am still asked to login when I start windows. I suspect this is because there are two user accounts.

One user account is just user, which is what I use. The other is my name, John, which I must have set up when I was installing windows and I don't remember the password for.

I tried to delete the John account so it would just login automatically to the user account, but when I go under user accounts after typing in systempropertiesadvanced under the run command, I don't see this "John" account.

So in short, I have done all the things that a simple google search would suggest for me to disable the logon screen following a restart, but to no avail. I suspect this is because of a second user account for which I don't know the password, but I can't seem to find this account anywhere to delete it.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your time!

    Hi Denis,

It does not, below is the response I get to that command.

    Administrator DefaultAccount Guest
    User WDAGUtilityAccount
    The command completed successfully.

    John,

I have seen similar reports that have ended up proving to be caused by a mistake in using the netplwiz utility.
    - netplwiz asks for a password when an account is selected but it does not necessarily check it properly at the time, it merely tries using it when you next login
    - when a mistake has been made in entering the password into netwplwiz, an unwanted user entry appears on the login screen and the automatic login does not take palce.
    - to undo the mistake, you just need to set netplwiz back up to demand that login is necessary for all accounts
    - when the fault is seen to have been fixed, netplwiz can be used once again to allow the intended user account to be logged in automatically.

The tutorial on using netplwiz is Sign in User Account Automatically - TenForumsTutorials

By the way, the problem is defintiely not "because there are two user accounts". Netplwiz works whaver the number of user accounts.

Oh, and there is no need to use systempropertiesadvanced to check user accounts**. As you already know, the net user command shows user accounts as does netplwiz. You can also see them in
    - Settings, Accounts, Your info
    and
    - Settings, Accounts, Family & other users
    and, in some cases,
    - Settings, Accounts, Access work or school

** Strictly-speaking, systempropertiesadvanced does not show user accounts but user profiles - the sets of files that make user accounts work.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
