    Auto Login issue

When I bought the laptop it came with Win 10 preinstalled. As far as I know I've never had a password for it. It did request me to set up a pin though. The issue that i have is that I want the laptop to boot up without asking for a login. I've followed quite a lot of tutorials on how to do this but none of them work. I end up with a second user screen under my name which asks for a password that I don't have. And then there's the old log in screen where I still have to enter my pin. Any ideas how I can work around this? I've searched on here for Log in but the things that came up don't seem to mention this particular problem

You should be able to simply go to Windows Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options, choose which sign-in method you are using, select remove if it is a Windows Hello PIN.

If you used a password, select change and enter a blank field.

There's two things that happen when I try this. The first attempt started up without password or PIN but forced me to set up a PIN immediately. There was no option not to.
The second thing that happened on a different attempt was that it created another user login with my same name which I don't know the password to and again the PIN log in screen on a different user login with my name. I spent most of yesterday and all of this morning so far with this. Why do Microsoft make everything so stressful?

Are you using Windows as a "Local Account" (LA) or signed-in with a MS account?

If using a LA then Windows will prompt you to set up a PIN/password if the only account on the computer is yours and it is therefore an "Administrator" account. If you want the computer to boot up without asking for a PIN/PW then create another user account but make it a "Standard" user with no PW. The computer will then automatically open this account without asking for a PW when switched on. Is this what you are after? You can then always use this account and if you want to do anything that requires "Administrator" privilege you will just need to enter your "Administrator" account PIN/PW for those occasions.

If you created a profile with a Microsoft Account (Email Address) , then you have to use a Password or a Pin. No way around that.
However, you can create a Local Account. Switch to Local Account in Windows 10 This could be whatever name and password, or no password you want.
If you want to login Automatically, Press the Windows key+R in the Run Box, type netplwiz and press Enter. Highlight the Local account and Uncheck the box that says Users must login with a user name and password to access this computer. Apply and OK. type the Local Accounts password twice, restart the computer.

When you used to reach your old login screen before you set a PIN, could you just log in by pressing the Enter key?
1 If so, you definitely did not have a password set.
2 If so, you defintiely used a local user account not an MSAccount-linked user account.

I thought that the netplwiz method that you are referring to could only work if you set a password on the local account concerned but, according to the tutorial, I am wrong and you can use that method to do what you wanted.

I'm not certain why this didn't work for you. I've set this up on my wife's PC using a local account and tested it on mine this morning using a MS account. There's likely much more to this puzzle.

Do you use any third-party apps like Winaero Tweaker?

Did this change after 1809? I use a MS account on this PC and had no difficulty setting it to automatically login with netplwiz. I just tested it now.

Caveat; Both PCs I've successfully used this tweak on are using version 1809. Someone with a later version will have to test using netplwiz to confirm. Denis

I use netplwiz without any difficulty in Version 1909. I have local user accounts.
