Take ownership
Is there an easy way to take ownership of files or folders so they can be deleted.
I want to delete Windows.old and some of the Wallpapers I have added to windows 10.
Thanks

Search this:
Windows 10 Tutorial Index
(please bookmark)
for Windows.old
and you will find
Delete Windows.old Folder in Windows 10
And search it for Take Ownership
and you will find
Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10
Hope that helps.
Mmmm I found a program that puts the "Take Ownership" in one of the menus. It does work.
I have deleted almost all the files in Windows.old. There are one or two remaining that I can NOT delete.
Since I did that another problem has raised it's ugly head. I can not get Defender do a full scan. I am not sure it is doing any type of scan for that matter.
Let me say this. By using the take ownership from the context menu and then deleting Windows.old, seemed to cause some unexpected issue. For instance, Defender did NOT want to work at all after deleting Windows.old.
I think I have it fixed, but it was really really a PITA.
I posted a tutorial about specifically on how to delete Windows.old - which is deleted after 10 days automatically.
If you chose to attempt that a different way, be it on your own head.
Note: you can delete anything you like by booting your PC
- to a command prompt without Window running
- from a live boot disk
This is a comparatively trivial thing to do- and no need to struggle with taking ownership.
