How do I stop Non-Password User accounts automatically launching?

On both my Windows 8.1 PC and my windows 10 (Home, 64-bit, Version 1803) Laptop I have three user accounts. The following problem affects both machines. Two of the accounts have passwords but the other account is for visitors and is named ‘Visitor’. I would like this ‘Visitor’ not to have a password since it is for visitor’s use only and it is a ‘Standard’ user account with no Administrator privileges. The problem is that Windows remembers the last user and if that user was ‘Visitor’, because it has no password, the same profile automatically launches when Windows starts again. This does not happen if the last user was one of the other two password protected accounts. I should add that the Windows 8.1 ‘Guest’ account behaves the same way and adding a password is not possible. The ability to add a password is why I created the ‘Visitor’ account and adding a simple password, e.g. abc, to the account gives me what I want which is to be presented with the Log-in screen showing all three users without auto launching any of them. I don’t mind the screen showing the last user as long as I can see the other two in order to choose.

Question – After a non-password user has been using the PC/Laptop how do I stop this (‘Visitor’ or ‘Guest’) account from auto launching at next start-up?

I have ticked the “user must enter a username and password to use this computer” box but this has not helped. Any suggestions please?

Actually, the trick is to untick that box. Then you can set a user to automatically sign in. If you deliberately set this up with the wrong password you'll stop at a sign in screen saying the password is incorrect. Click OK and you can then give the correct password or choose another account.

Actually I do not want any user to sign-in automatically, including myself. The 'Visitor' account is not used much and giving it a PW seems the simplest way to ensure that all three users are presented with the same user-choice log-in screen without any auto signing-in. It is just that if I do not allocate a PW to the 'Visitor' account then, after a 'Visitor' uses the computer and logs off/shuts down, I am forced to logoff the auto-launched 'Visitor' at next boot-up in order to select my own user account before I can log-in. Annoying but thankfully doesn't happen often. I can live with my setup. After all it is the 'Visitor' that is inconvenienced by having to type in a simple PW but I was wondering if a non-PW user can be stopped from auto signing-in.

Precisely, which is why I said the set it up to automatically sign in one of your accounts with a deliberately wrong password. This guarantees that you get no further than the sign in screen.

Come to that, you could even set it up to automatically sign in as an account that doesn't even exist. Then you'll get this at start up....

...either way, from that screen you just click OK to get to the sign in screen with the choice of user accounts, which is what you asked for.

Thanks for your input Bree but I'll leave things as they are whereby the Visitor has to enter an 'abc' PW. It's the simplest way for me. Your time is appreciated.

Hello @wiganken, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Other than making sure each account has a password to prevent that, you could also enable Don't display last signed-in using Option 2 in the tutorial below since you have the Home edition. This will have "Other user" on the sign-in screen requiring users to have to enter both their user name and password to sign in.
