local account unable to switch to MS account

I tried everything on the account page to no avail. When I googled the issue, I saw many folks with the same issue. How is whis done with Windows 10 Pro 1809?
I was told to use a second account for my wife to backup itunes so gave her a local account then cold not get back to the MS account. I was lucky enough to have a Macrium image.
I thought ids I signed out of hers, I could reboot and chose to sign in as MS.

    Hello Peter,

If you haven't already, you might see if something in the tutorial below may help for now.

That's ok. When you get to step 7 above, you would just leave it blank.

When you successfully switch to a Microsoft account, it will use the password of your Microsoft account.

I read it all and watched the Windows ten forum video.
I must have had a glitch because when I signed out of the local account and tried to "sign in with a MS account" it said that is being used or something like that. I did try all, as I said, so used Macrium - thank goodness. I am afraid to do this again.
    Any ideas?

Was it possible that you had another account on the PC using the same Microsoft account, or the local account you were trying to switch was still signed in to an app with the Microsoft account?

    >>I think your idea that there was an open account or app is the most reasonable.
I am the only user of this pc and only have one MS account. Maybe an app was open but I am not sure where that would be. Thank you
