I am creating the ISO with the Media Creation Tool. I don't know how else to get the ISO for Home. The article at the top of this thread says that if I use the MCT, I will get that prompt, but I don't. This laptop came with Windows 7 Home Premium and was upgrade to Windows 10 Home. I've tried to activate Pro, just in case, but that doesn't work either.
Odd. It should install Home from what you stated.
What happens when you use "Windows 10 Home Single Language" to create the ISO with instead, and install Windows with it?
I've tried that the key I have does not work with that either. I've resorted to re-installing Windows 7 Home Premium and then upgrading to Windows 10 Home.
Is the ISO from bench and the tool version 1511, build 10586.420 or newer?
The Tech Bench page would be seeing the 1511_2 type downloads being the TH2 with all updates added in up until this time. The Single Language option is the US English 32bit only download there.
Now for getting past the Threshold 2 build even with all up to date Cumulative updates into a better build enabling the Get insider builds option will bring you upto par with the latest builds when put on the Fast ring until the Redstone 1 Update arrives later this month! Once that is out you shouldn't have any problem going with a clean install already having 10 activated or simply allow that to upgrade by update and then stop the Insider builds option to keep that running. These latest builds now seen are the Redstone Preview builds until the update is out.
I have no idea. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool right before I posted the comment from Windows 10.
The MC Tool will automatically download the latest form of the 1511_2 version of the Threshold 2 Update build 10586 version 1511 only with all of the loose individual updates released since November. The tool itself has already seen several updated versions in order to keep up. That will get you started on 10 while the RS1 update will be coming in a few weeks from now as the replacement.
That will arrive by the usual Windows Updates as well as being available as a separate download. Here I will be planning a fresh clean install on the main system while seeing it go on as an upgrade by update when that arrives.
For the present time in order to keep 10 running you can upgrade the TH2 by way of the Windows Insiders Program's Insider Preview builds since you should only be seeing one last build before the Insider version of the RS1 which immediately proceeds the general release by a week or two. I'll be seeing that here on two desktops prior to the clean install that will take place on the main. A direct download link for the Anniversary update being edited in on the guide may be seen as well if not for the updated MC tool links.
