You can see from the screen prints below, that settings are still all jumbled. I hate to reinstall windows and totally start this laptop over again, but maybe that's the best way. Let me know what you think.

    I see one issue.

You will need to change the Desktop string value in the key below to be C:\Users\Mickey\Desktop instead of C:\Users\Mickey

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

You can easily do this by using the .bat file in step 4 of Option 2 in the tutorial below.

I'll give this a try now. But shouldn't I be changing it to C:\Users\Mickey\Desktop rather than C:\Users\Desktop?

I assume that I'll also need to resolve all the instances where "drsto" is shown too, don't I? There isn't a user "drsto" anymore.

    That would be correct.

Using the .bat files in Option 2 will do all of this for you, and make sure the proper path is used for the current user.

OK. Ran .bat file as instructed and changed the location of desktop in registry. Desktop seems to be back to normal (THANK YOU!!!). I still have all these references to the drsto user folder that does not exist anywhere but I haven't run the other bat files yet. I'll work on that now..

Is this really some sort of alias for the Mickey user folder/profile?

Dropbox is the only thing I think that is still not working so I'll have to figure that out. And I may reconnect OneDrive, or maybe just leave it disconnected since I do backup and I use dropbox for important things.

    You're most welcome Mickey.

Correct, using the other .bat files in Option 2 should correct the path for those folders in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

You might check the settings in Dropbox to see if you may be able to change its folder path to the correct "Mickey" one.

Okay, ran all the *.bat files and registry looks better but all references to AppData still point to "drsto". Is there any way to get those updated?

I guess I should have run those .bat files before I started this thread since it fixed so many things, but once I saw my desktop with the folders instead of the shortcuts I panicked since I'd already spent so many hours. I was determined to get it finished and right after all these hours.

You are a patient man dealing with all these user problems day after day. :)

You can manually change the paths from including "drsto" to "micke" instead.

I'm working on making the manual changes now. For my own education, why is it that the registry is using "micke" but Explorer is using "Mickey". I had expected after all this to have consistency.

Are there other places in the registry where I should make these manual changes?

Unless something else is affected, updating the registry here will help with your shell folders.

I suspect your account name may be "Mickey", but the user profile folder is named "Micke" using only the first 5 characters by default.

It depends on how the user profile folder name was originally changed from "dstro".
