This did NOT restore the deleted items; rather it imported the entire saved list into a new folder named "Imported from [name of file]". How can I get the imported file to totally replace all of the Favorites? Do I need to delete all the current Favorites before doing the import?
This is the default behavior for Edge.... apparently, they expect you to do the import and then manually move everything afterwards to their original locations (what a pain). It only does "the right thing" if the database was completely empty (which is not the same thing as deleting the current favorites)

However, if you use the free 3rd-party EdgeManage application (instead of Edge) to do the import of the HTML file, then the favorites will end up where they belong. There is a option called "Merge Imports" (which is enabled by default) that controls this behavior.

Here's a much simpler way to backup and, if ever needed, restore your Edge Favorites:
    Browse to=> edge://favorites/
In the bottom left-hand corner you'll see the following links:
    Add favorite
    Add folder
    Import favorites
    Export favorites

Simply click the link 'Export favorites', choose your destination folder, and voila.
To restore them if needed simply choose 'Import favorites'.

What i'm curious about is how to access Favorites that are stored & sync'd in the Microsoft cloud, which is configurable here:
    edge://settings/profiles/sync

For backup and restore reasons, in the new Edge Chromium, besides exporting the favorites to an .html file and then importing it back to Edge, there is an alternative way.

The favorites of Edge are kept in a file called Bookmarks in the folder C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default.
Along with them in the same folder the icons of the favorites are kept in the file Favicons.

You can copy these two files into a safe location and whenever you need to restore the favorites you can copy them back to the Edge location.

To do that, either in the Windows search or in File Explorer type the following:
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
That will take you to the Edge location. Find the two files
    Bookmarks and Favicons
and copy them to another location (e.g. your Desktop, or any location you wish).

If you want to restore your backup for any reason, first close Edge and then find your two backup files and copy them back to the Edge location, replacing the ones in the %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default folder.

Please note that restoring the two files, will delete any new favorites you have saved to Edge since you last backed up the two favorites files.

These edge:// commands and settings can be saved as Favorites for greater convenience for future use.
I have the following saved in a Favorites folder.
    edge://favorites/
    edge://flags/
    edge://flags/#smooth-scrolling
    edge://flags/#edge-smooth-scrolling-enabled-pdf
    edge://flags/#win-use-native-spellchecker
    edge://flags/#edge-autoplay-user-setting-block-option

It's also a good way of restoring these options after a clean install of Windows.

    Greetings,

Is it possible to recover the Edge favorites from a user's profile backup?

I have to mention, no import/export. He got his computer reimaged. We only have his Windows profile.

    Thanks so much!

Hello Soare, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If this is for the newer Chromium based Microsoft Edge, then the tutorial below may help for that instead.
