Hi, after my external drive failed I couldn't use or change file history - win10 insisted I reconnect the (broken) drive. Your .bat rest file has partly fixed that - thanks.
But win10 still wont recognise my external drive - I click 'add a drive', it returns 'no usable drives found' - but there is a perfectly OK external drive (E:)
I think it might be still confused from when the original drive (F:) failed - any ideas please?

    Hello ognik,

Is the drive seen in File Explorer > This PC?

How is the drive formatted? For example: NTFS, FAT32, etc...

Got 2 drives actually, 1 int, 1 ext - both normally visible in file explorer/ my pc etc. Its only file history can't see 'em. Both are NTFS.

From another thread - I have folders in both drives pinned under Quick Access, but cant see how this might be a barrier?

Do you have anything being saved on the drive that may prevent it from being used by File History?

(didn't say hi the 1st time - Hi Brink )
I dont think so, and 'cos I did that .bat reset, FH thinks it hasn't been configured yet ....

This thread ( Backup "No usable drives found" ) suggests something to do with folders being mapped - but I have music on 1 drive and documents on the other - hard to do without those....

As a test, make sure you do not have anything linked/mapped to the drive you want to use for File History to see if it is recognized afterwards.

I did try that by removing all from quick access - no change. But how can I remove links under My PC, like documents & Music?

Do you perhaps know how to find the file history data in the register - just so I can check there is nothing left from Windows earlier confusion?

You could checking the drive itself for any folders from Windows that may have been linked to it.

If you like as a test, you could copy the contents of the drive to a separate drive temporarily, format the hard drive to start fresh, test to see if the drive is available for File History and select the drive if yes, copy the contents back to the drive
