Backup "No usable drives found"

Windows 10 Pro, Insider Preview.
Was checking my Backup and found it was not running.
Has in the past and have an older File History on an external drive.
I want to create a new File History backup on a SSD, "D" on this PC.
Go to "Add a Drive" in Settings, says "No usable drives found"

If I go to "File History" in search and "Restore your files with File History", the Home-File History" windows has "No File History found" "The File History is currently turned off"

Clicking on "Configure File History settings" the "Keep a History of your files", "File History is Off", "Turn On" appears for a second and disappears.

This is a new one for me.

No, its a separate drive.
Both C and D are SSDs.

I just plugged in a clean USB drive and it doesn't recognize that either.

Well, that's odd - it should work.

Some possible suggestions in this thread (this from post #11).

i had the same problem, but in my case it was that i have used the drive for my music files and have entered the location in windows
media player, as soon i removed that, then it see the drive.
you have to be sure you have not entered the drive in some kind of libary.

That did it! I had a "Documents" folder and a "Music" folder under "This PC" that were mapped to the USB drive. Once I changed the location (to where I really wanted them), I was able to see my USB drive. Thank you!

The OP in that thread finally gave up.
I might try a Reset since this appears to be a W-10 problem.

Rather than a Reset, try an in-place repair upgrade. Much the same (it reinstalls Windows) but you keep all user files, installed programs and most of your settings.

Will do that.
Don't know why I thought of Reset.
Have done many Ins/Repairs over the years.
I can use the Build 18272 iso that's almost current.
Will let you know.

Not yet - I'm on 17763. If you are running an Insider build then bugs like this are to be expected, let's hope 18272 does the trick

Hi - just checking the "you have to be sure you have not entered the drive in some kind of libary" solution, I have 2 separate drives that file history doesn't recognise, both have folders (lots) that are pinned to quick access.

I just don't understand why win 10 see's this as a problem and blocks those drives?
